Guessing it depends on the timeframe. If 70K 2013 is in January, it puts it real close to BtH so it would make sense to promote both at the same time. Heck, even if 70K gets pushed back to later in the year I wouldn't mind them at least giving us the dates and a couple of bands at the same time as the first BtH announcement, then they can focus on BtH for a little bit.

that seems borderline suicidal, cause you are making your customer base CHOOSE. The further they are spaced out, the greater chance you have for overlap clientele. And let's face facts, its' not like this thing sells out in 3 months time, so you need those repeat customers.

My GUESS is that BARGE is a 1 off event at this time, barring it's success, it could become yearly

I'm just saying if Barge and 70K are close in time, they would need the whole year to market both so they would be done together. If 70K is pushed back in time, then of course I expect them to focus on Barge and put 70K on the backburner for a bit. Some people do have to choose, btw. I wouldn't be surprised if a majority of the customers are waiting to see the lineups to decide which to attend because they can't swing both due to money/vacation/other plans/etc and in that case it makes sense to promote them both at once.

I HOPE it is not because if I had to CHOOSE based on rumored lineups I would easily pick BtH. Due to school though I have no way that I can do it this year though. And they need to keep the mix on 70K the same as it is now because if it were to go to all power metal I'd probably have to skip it too.

Completely agree with everything Drinkmoxie was saying a page ago about metalcore / nu metal not working at all.

I'm pretty sure the kids that bought the debut albums from Hed(pe), Primer 55, and Dope weren't exactly hip to Of One Blood by Shadows Fall or Courting Disaster and Tragedy by Himsa. I'm also a supporter of Swallow the Sun, Protest the Hero, and As I Lay Dying. As I Lay Dying has been particularlly surprising over the last 5 year. They really rounded into a pretty good band.

Also, before the poser comments follow.... I also want to point out that I find liking a band like Powerwolf just as embarassing as you think liking a band like Protest the Hero is. :)

In this article of the Finnish mag Inferno the reporter says that 70k is at the same time next year. It might be that he's gotten the wrong impression though.
A good article btw, the title translates to something like "70,000 tons of awesome".

That depends in what you want in a live show. If you want a stand still crowd singing cheese like DY-DY-DYNAMITE watching a bunch of dudes in drag, Kiss makeup, and potentially chainmail, then that's all you. I prefer metal shows like this:

Yeah, that is theirs. They churn out 3 pure thrash tracks per album now. Speaking of Slayer.... They did just release a cover of War Ensemble and while that doesn't really work for me, at least their heads are in the right place

I don't really understand how his vocals are any worse/different than from something like Omnium Gatherum. Maybe a little bit more hardcore/energetic as opposed to the more european Tales From a Thousand Lakes style.

Interesting. Maybe I don't hate them as much as I used to. Are they slowly moving towards thrash? I think it'd be awesome of they just suddenly came out with a pure thrash album and converted a bunch of their fans over to thrash

Edit: then again I guess it shouldn't be that surprising since Austrian Death Machine is pretty much all thrash.

They won't do a pure thrash album. They are gonna stick with a variety. I think thrash has made a huge comeback in the U.S. Old and new.

I just went to the Anthrax/Testament/Death Angel show here in Ohio and it was sold out (shocking) and a huge variety of people there.

I remember Testament played in front of 250 people in 1999 when The Gathering came out and Anthrax in mid 2000s playing in front of maybe 400. Now we have a sold out 1200 venue. I'm so happy for them. I know alot of this is due to the Big 4 thing, but it's still great to see.

Overkill getting these full U.S. Tours is a sign too. It's really cool even though I'm not the biggest Overkill guy in the world.

When I speak of metalcore, I refer to bands like Prayer For Cleansing or Aftershock and the likes of that.
