It's funny. When I was younger and we visited our relatives in Maryland in the summer I always thought it was so hot, but then the summer before last I went and it really didn't feel that hot to me anymore, since living in Tucson. Funny how perspectives change

You can head out the gates into the parking lot under the overpass for more shade. There you can hear the outdoor stages & hangout with the crusty punks. :?

Yea, heat is relative. The heat at MDF is like going on a winter vacation compared to Austin. We had 70 straight days of triple digits last summer and no rain. Temps were constantly hitting 110+.

Just makes that cold beer taste better!

It was in the high 90's last year and hit 100 by 11 am when I was in the shuttle on the way back to the Airport to go home. In 2009, it was the most killer weather. 75-80 degrees and perfect.

I found a way to deal with them when I was at November to Dismember in San Bernadino CA in 2000. They were actually stalking us metalheads in line for beer and when we left with our beers they would pounce on us with sad faces and empty cups and Beg for some of our expensive beer. My friend tom said "watch this" and a crusty filthy smelly dude asked tom for some of his beer and he said "sure" and took a big sip of it and then spit it all over the guy.

A big time BOO/HISS to this recent batch of cancellations.

No Morgion, Dodheimsgard, or Unanimated.
Setherial, Mortuary Drape, and Pentagram (The one from Chile) are taking the spots.
All the cool kids are going Ragnarokkr, MDF and Tuska in 2013!

Don't you normally have about 24 hours to cancel airfare?

just cancelled the flight part with no problem actually. thanks for that heads up.

we might try to sell our passes because this fest is a $2500 expense for us and Dodheimsgard and Morgion were seriously big draws. at this point it looks like nick and i will not be going and will save the money for Barge to Hell or something. plus we haven't seen our families in ohio yet this year, might do that.

Nice to see Mortuary Drape. But would have liked to see Morgion, so its a net sum zero for me. The other cancellatations and additions make no difference to me.

The more black metal that cancels, the better :deathmetal: :deathmetal: :deathmetal:

Wow, how is it so expensive? I go from Austin and I spent this much last year:

Flight - $300
Hotel - $100 (split it with 2 other guys)
Ticket - $165
Food & drink - No idea exactly, but probably around $150 tops

My bill this year should be about $150 more this year due to going 4 days instead of 3 because of Agalloch being on Thursday. If you don't get any response here, you might try the MDF forum to sell your tickets, because that is where I got my 4-day passes for face + shipping/handling cost and I know people are still looking for passes there.

I was looking forward to seeing Morgion, but that was not the lineup that drew me there. There are cancellations every year of MDF, so you kind of have to expect some changes. If my memory serves me correctly Ghost was only able to get on the bill after some cancellations last year, and the year before that Sodom never got their visas at the last minute and missed the show too.

Also Setherial and Mortuary Drape look like perfectly adequate replacements. even this Chilean Pentagram doesn't look too bad.

I'd love to see Napalm Death - they are one of the few bands at MDF this year that I'd love to see and who I haven't seen before. You mentioned Godflesh - I really loved them at Hole in the Sky last summer. I think they are the kind of band you either love or hate. They are not much to "watch" really because it's just the 2 guys and a lot of fog machine (at least at HITS there was a lot of fog)....for me, seeing them is more a sound/body experience. This might not make any sense to most people reading this - but at HITS it was very loud and dirge and/or almost trance like. I love loud music, especially live (loud concerts have never bothered me or my ears) and their kind of sound/music has a really cool vibe to it (to me anyway). It's hard to describe, but I loved it, and no video I've seen of them can re-create that...you just gotta be there. Having said that, I'll link them anyway :P - here's a vid of them performing Christbait Rising at Roadburn last year http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yq30tUKZ3o ) So I would definitely recommend Godflesh at MDF! Although, if 'ya hate 'em - don't blame me - they're just not your thang. ;)

Yeah I understand that. Barge is by no means a guarantee for me though. At this point I'm kinda rooting against the lineup being something I care about to save the $$$

$$$ I have put aside right now looks like it will go towards a Hersheypark trip

Food/drink/merch: I have $250 set aside for that. Free breakfast at the hotel each morning will help. But I just dipped like $60 into my spending fund on MERCH before I even got to the fest. (had to buy new CD's from Hail Spirit Noir, Sear Bliss and Master's Hammer)

I can easily go DRY or only have a drink or two and blow the rest of the funds on merch and some food. NO $80 dinner at Rusty Skupper for me this time around.

That was so rad, our bill was over $500 !!! Love the Rusty Scupper. Wish Eric would get up before noon and do the Sunday Seafood Brunch there. I did it in 2009 and it was amazing . My friends and I had to take a nap afterwards. It is like 40 bucks and all you can eat !! Tons of Bacon. :)

Yeah I understand that. Barge is by no means a guarantee for me though. At this point I'm kinda rooting against the lineup being something I care about to save the $$$

$$$ I have put aside right now looks like it will go towards a Hersheypark trip

Heshey Park? I must go there!

You never heard of that? Figured it was common knowledge it existed. They have a plethora of roller coasters and 3 new Intamin's since I last visited the park. We will then hit Knoebels Grove a hour north in the mountains as well for wooden coaster goodness.

FYI, Intamin is: http://www.intaminworldwide.com/amuseme ... fault.aspx (mine and the wife's favorite steel coaster company)

Hershey Park's been on my list for a while. I really need to go out amusement park tripping sometime soon.

If anyone's got a hankerin' to go to Cedar Point this summer, hit me up. It's less than two hours from our place.
All the cool kids are going Ragnarokkr, MDF and Tuska in 2013!

I'd love to do that if I can! Cedar Point is the top amusement park on my list. So many great roller coasters I need to ride. Will let you know if by some miracle I can do it.

Ho do you not go there at least 1 time per year? Unless of course familiarity breeds contempt ;)

Flight: $276
Hotel: $150 (split with 2 other guys)
Ticket: $!80
Food/drink/merch: I have $250 set aside for that. Free breakfast at the hotel each morning will help. But I just dipped like $60 into my spending fund on MERCH before I even got to the fest. (had to buy new CD's from Hail Spirit Noir, Sear Bliss and Master's Hammer)

I can easily go DRY or only have a drink or two and blow the rest of the funds on merch and some food. NO $80 dinner at Rusty Skupper for me this time around.

I usually skip the merch unless it is something specific to MDF. I forgot to include my pre-order t-shirt for the fest that I get, so that's another $20 bucks I guess.

This year I think I'm going to get the poster too. The horror movie style one looks too badass to pass up.

Last year with the increase in beer prices and the lack of Natty Bo I did not drink nearly as much. Had to go to the Sidebar for my Natty Bo fix.

I get those as well. but I'm hoping they have fest specific shirts for Autopsy, Artillery & Morgoth. THere are about 4-5 other bands I will consider buying a shirt as well (depending upon how good they are - I can be an ultra picky bastard when it comes to t-shirts)

You have to seek them out pretty early I think. I didn't see very many specific shirts last year. The only one that comes to mind was the Ghost shirts, but I thought they looked fugly, so I passed on it.

I do remember now that I did pick up a Neurosis shirt last year too. I picked up the last one in a size that I could fit into and it was not too long after they played.

I am pretty sure Autopsy didn't do anything special last year, so who knows what they're doing this year.

I think the two merch buys for me this year will be Agalloch, Dragged Into Sunglight, Winter, Today is the Day, Morgoth and Negura Bunget if they have something decent.
