I remember once in Åre we went to the hotel's sauna and they wouldn't let us pour water on the stove. They said that because it was an electrical stove, one can't pour water on it. :shock:

Yeah, a really nice experience to sit in a 60C sauna with no steam rising from the stove. :lol:

Yeah, most kiuas' in Finland are electrical too, that's why it was so weird. But, it was in Sweden, so you never know. :mrgreen:

My favourite kind of sauna is savusauna (smoke sauna), which is a really old invention. The walls and the benches are all black because of the smoke during the warming of the sauna (there's no chimney). You start the warming early on in the day to get the sauna ready for bathing. The sauna can only be used after the fire has died as you have to wait for the smoke to disappear. :)

Well, it's polite to ask if you plan on pouring a lot of water. :lol:

It depends on the temperature really, in a sauna over 100C the steam is so hot that not everyone likes it, so it's better to ask. Of course, no Finn would say no - we can handle the heat, even if it's intolerable. :lol:
