The BARGE TO HELL 2012 Megathread

Timing is horrible for Barge so I knew beforehand I wouldnt make it, but im totally not impressed with the bands. I knew barge wouldnt be a huge draw for me anyways. Missing Hypocrisy sucks but ill see them in a few months anyway

Only band im really pissed about missing is Paradise Lost, missed the only chance to see them so im pretty about them.

Yes, must say, it took awhile but Andy's announcement scheme was a winner! 16 band up front and announced in a way to keep people's attention for a long time is a great way to kick things off.

So far I can still say it'll be 70k for me, but the 3 bands I like of the 16 (Hypocrisy, Sodom, & Paradise Lost) certainly do sting!

I'm in for Barge. Paradise Lost / Moonspell are too big a deal for me. I can't imagine what 70K would have to counter that considering my tastes.

They'd have to have like Iron Maiden or some shit to get me to switch.

I am now a little concerned with a potential conflict. Paradise Lost is not what I consider "extreme metal". Thought they would be on 70K. 70K better be like a pure power metal fest and stuff like Turias. I don't need to see bands like Katatonia, High On Fire, Swallow the Sun popping up.

I don't care what you say. 70K is going to be ProgPower USA bands! It would not make any sense to put thrash titans like Testament and shit on there and this point. They aren't going to screw me over on this one! When they announce stuff like Evergrey and Pain of Salvation, that'll be a slight bummer, but I can handle it. Bring back Pretty Maids and RAGE and all that stuff. Sonata Artica. Dragonforce. Make this easy on me.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm stepping on anyone's toes or offending anyone here....
buuuut....

There are always going to be bands playing some gig, some festival, or some cruise that we want to see (and maybe we can't for this or that reason). That's just the breaks. In my case, I've fortunately seen most (actually ALL except for Pain of Salvation) of my favorite bands - so most of this stuff is gravy for me at this point. Plus there are always going to be bands that each of us love, hate or are indifferent toward.

So...re the yays and nays of the announcements (in particular) - I'm kinda meh about the whole discussion aspect at this point and getting kinda tired of it to be honest - especially the naysayers (whatever form they take).

Many of us have been active on this forum for nearly 2 years - I learned a lot about different bands and such - particularly on the Engine Room forum and that has been FANTASTIC! And we've had some funny and interesting chats on many a random topic on the Off-Course forum. But - I'm thinking I might bail out now - except for an occasional post on the Engine Room forum. I know some formerly active folks have already (or at least temporarily) bailed from the forum, so I wouldn't be the first.

I personally think that Loudblast, Possessed and Morgoth belong on there. I'm surprised at how old school Barge to Hell is. I thought it was going to be newer stuff with constant blast beats. The Barge is looking fucking rad.

Artillery is a huge draw for me and many of the others make B2H a pretty attractive consideration. I hope we get an equal/parallel blitz of 70k announcements 'soon' to help with the decision process.

As exciting as this all is, I have to say it really depresses me in the financial part of my brain. Anyone wanna join me in planning a big heist this summer? I know how to use chloroform

Just because after a long phone conversation I had with an ex-forum member tonight I thought it might be worth stating because no one else (most likely) will.

We (the collective forum WE) all know that you and mooyagi Ryan are dating one another, both love the forum, both love the cruises and all that (and as most of us clearly remember it used to be the Marlo and Ryan show although not nearly to the same extent) .....

buuut does your private life/relationship/joking around really need to dominate most every thread? I know this reality has killed (by strangling) this forum in the minds of at least a few people I know personally who have expressed this opinion privately and who knows how many countless others.

Ok - I admit - I'm not one to talk because I've posted shitloads of stuff that I suspect some (or perhaps most?) think is longwinded at best, and stupid and self-serving at worst. I am a middle-aged crazy-in-the-head lush (really) after all....I'm acutely aware of this, believe me.
