Gona decide today if that $40 package is worth it. Anyways, going on 05/01/12. Should be at least a half dozen cruise folk, probably more present :)

We should have a rather large Florida contingent at this show. (05/01/12)

Nice! And that is a good day! (my birthday :P ) I think there should be a fairly good size 70K contingent at the Friday the 13th :death: Chicago gig. :D

Since my lengthy post on this thread got shafted to the bottom of the last page - I'm reposting it because of the confirmed tour dates and cool poster. :P

*begin repost*
It seems the dates for this amazing tour were announced during the cruise sometime....this gig is without doubt in my top three most anticipated of 2012 so far (along with Paganfest America - Turisas, Arkona, Ex Deo, Alestorm & Huntress in April and Rammstein in May)

It is *extremely* rare that I am so stoked for EVERY band on a line-up - but this time without doubt. :D :D :D

BEHEMOTH - 'nuff said really but I'll add that I feel Nergal is one of the greatest single performers (considering all forms of entertainment) I have *ever* experienced...and imo the sheer power of their music stands high above most every other band of their ilk. I will never forget the first time seeing them back in November 2007 - totally  blew me away...afterward I felt like I had been hit by a Mack Truck (and it felt good :P )

WATAIN - been hearing so much about about this band for a few years now and looking forward to finally seeing them - only know a few songs - album recommendations people?

THE DEVIL'S BLOOD - learned about this band recently via soundcurve Mike and Kevin on these forums somewhere - so far, only own the EP Come, Reap - fantastic! Next to buy: Time of No Time Evermore and The Thousandfold Epicentre. Love the 60s & 70s psychedelic influences among others.

IN SOLITUDE - saw them at Hole in the Sky in Bergen in the small Garage venue - fantastic live band - love the album In Solitude that I have and now need to pick up Hidden Dangers and The World. The Flesh. The Devil (Bentz! - I seem to remember you and Mere dig this band too - and since there is no Detroit date - I assume you're gonna come to Chicago again for a gig and visit to Kuma's? )

At least you are honest about your "re-pimping".

And I shouldn't be surprised, as the strength of your "pimp hand" got Margie to our cabin within 5 seconds

Yea, I don't understand this. TX should always have two dates minimum. There are cities in Texas that are 13 driving hours apart. Lucky for me it is only a little over an hour to San Antonio from Austin.

Apparently, I never heard of them until they got announced for Metalfest Croatia. The chaingun speed/sounding drumming can get a tad bit annoying but ive loved what I heard so far.

Can't wait!

What the hell? They opened for Job for a fuckin' Bellboy?

Thats almost as bad as me refusing to see Dark Tranquillity because they were opening for Killswitch Engage AND had the slot before The Devil Wears Prada

Yeah - how 'bout it? I should post a copy of that ticket as proof of that ridiculous "double-bill" - here's one for Kevin (you're so charming by the way :P ) - I DID NOT LIKE (uhhhh - hated? ) Job for a Cowboy - seeing them after Behemoth was quite a shock to the old system - I only stayed for a few songs.

This also happened when they were last here. They were on the bill as being the band that were playing before JFAC, but when I got to the gig, JFAC were playing and Behemoth were in fact going to be the headliner. It was a big stuff around and I didn't understand it considering the time before they played here last they were headlining their own tour and the first time they were in Oz was part of a festival in which they were the headliner also.

Some of you know I'm kinda known for my notoriously bad, blurry, point & shoot gig shots...but I actually really like the two below. :P

was in the second row for most of Behemoth...amazing. (hard for me to describe how amazing & great that performance was! )
Image

uhhhh....and the The Devil's Blood? Amazing as well! I have honestly never seen or heard a band quite like this - loved the whole performance - I could have cropped this picture but I decided I like it as it is..... and yes - I believe that is real blood they are both covered in - well, according to the recent cover story of Decibel magazine, at least ;)

I've not seen any of these bands, yet, so I'm jazzed to see teh show.

I've got VIP to the show here in Seattle on Friday. They're playing a small, shitty venue here with a carpeted floor.

I wonder about the blood, candles, etc. in this place.

I saw the show this past Saturday. I was working it, so I had the best seat in the house (in the barricade). With only 1 crowd surfer, I didn't have to do much. I was able to get one of Nergal's guitar pick's laying on the floor at the end of the night. Money for nothing & the guitar pick was free.

Behemoth was great as usual. I think I have seen them ~10 times. Such a great live group. I think people should try to see them at least once in their lifetimes. I had 5-7 friends that had never seen them before. They left very happy with the show.

I think that the Devil's Blood was wearing real animal blood. They had a few people arrive with buckets of blood for them. They supposedly arranged with people they know or contacted on Facebook to have it provided in exchange for free admission.

The VIP for this show seemed like a letdown. They let the people in first, they got a special tour shirt & poster (?), & that was it. No opportunity to meet the bands. The 2 opening bands were hanging around in the crowd after their sets (we had no Watain).

Carrie - I think you're gonna enjoy the show! Especially Behemoth who I think is really hard to beat - certainly one of the greatest live acts I've ever seen. I would recommend trying to be right up in front at least for part of the set - Nergal is so great to watch up close (the others as well) - I was standing to the right of the stage right in front of Orion, but Nergal came over to that side on occasion and would be like about 4 feet away from me - he is such an intense performer and at times would look directly into the eyes of the people in the audience....with a really intense piercing gaze - what can I say? :D  The whole gig was just awesome. I posted the pictures and comments below on the Barge to Hell wishlist thread but thought I'd post it on this thread as well. By the way, don't know how familiar you are with their music...if not - they did all seven songs I linked below. I'm crazy about their videos as well - many are incredibly brilliant mini-movies in my view.

"Extreme metal? The dictionary defintion should have Behemoth's picture - 'nuff said." to which Captain Metal said he thought there were plenty of bands more deserving of the textbook definition. To me, it's not really a contest per se, but having seen Behemoth four times now, as well as lots of other bands (including all on my sig list except for Napalm Death and Taake), I'd say Behemoth is way up there (as well as out there  ).

Still wonder if Nergal would want to be on a germy cruise ship (no matter how clean they try to keep them, I've always heard that cruise ships are total germ pools) with tons of fans considering his recent life threatening illness. Don't know enough about the state of one's immune system after such an ordeal. All I know, is that he looked in tip-top form on Friday night. I seem to remember reading that he had gotten very thin and weak during the illness - but on Friday he looked heathy and muscular and all that. (hehe - at least what I could observe considering the big costume, face & body paint. :beerwink: ). One thing I did notice though (because I was right in front), was that he didn't sing certain parts of certain songs (for example the really fast parts of Conquer All (first heard at around 57 seconds on the recording) - his voice kept "playing," but he stepped away from the mic during that part. It wasn't really a detraction for me, just something I noticed. What a great show - wish I could go to other legs of the tour - especially since Watain wasn't at the Chi-town gig.

I seriously feel that there are very few bands that hold a candle to these guys in the "all-around extreme" category - and in particular Nergal - who when I see how "normal" he is in many interviews (especially when he talks about his education, thoughts about religion, travels and such), it is really amazing to me how he channels demons - or at least a demon-like spirit. At the very least, he's an amazing actor. ;)

I wrote this back in August 2010 on the thread about Nergal's leukemia viewtopic.php?f=3&t=539&p=13676&hilit=nergal+leukemia#p13676 - for those who like to watch interviews with musicians/bands they like/see - I HIGHLY recommend the interviews at the bottom of this message:

Laura wrote:When I mentioned Behemoth on the cruise line-up thread somebody had replied that he was sick with something....but yikes! The kind of leukemia he has sounds really deadly!

Too bad you haven't seen them live - I saw them for the first time nearly 3 years ago at Chicago's House of Blues (our main venue for medium to large-draw metal acts). An online friend had recommended them to me so I checked them out on myspace/youtube beforehand but nothing prepared me for the power of that performance! Nergal is one of a handful of lead singers I've seen who imo have an otherworldly/larger than life stage presence that is amazing! (To name a few others...Kyo of Dir en Grey, Satyr of Satyricon, Johan of AA, and Mortuus of Marduk; and I'm certain I would add Till Lindemann to that list if I ever get to see Rammstein :D )

Saw Behemoth again with Dimmu in May 08 (now THAT was a great double bill!) and last saw Behemoth headline here just this past January 2010....so, again, it's hard for me to imagine that Nergal has leukemia now - major bummer!

And one last thing that I think is just so cool about Nergal - I've watched a lot of interviews with him....and he seems like such a smart and thoughtful guy; has even studied history at length which is uber cool in my book! These are quite long interviews, but very good. (and since you've admitted to being a nerd on other threads, PxDnNinja ;) , as did I - perhaps you watch interviews of your favorite performers as well  )

Still pretty bummed I missed Watain since Chicago was an early date in the tour, and they weren't on those bills. Is there anyone here who saw them (Watain) on this tour? Thoughts? Reviews?

Saw this picture on Behemoth's facebook page yesterday from their San Francisco gig....love it since these two are definitely in my top ten favorite live performers (as well as being great frontmen/vocalists generally). Adam (Nergal) has always been on the small, slender side, but I think he looks pretty thin here. He also used to have long hair which I imagine might have all fallen out when he was sick. I still can't believe in a way that he wanted to do this extensive touring so soon after being so gravely ill with leukemia. When I saw him live on Friday, the 13th of April, you never would have known it though.
That's hardcore for 'ya I guess. :P :metalguy: :metalguy:

watain was pretty killer. they didn't do anything "stinky" with animal blood or whatever, which i appreciated, because that crap is not for me and doesn't add to a show IMO. anyway they have pretty simplistic stylings a la KISS as black metal, "black n roll" type of thing with blast beats mixed in, and the crowd in denver seemed to dig them and they were fairly energized. i am sorry you had to miss them Laura!

Nice! Can't wait for this show.

I've seen Behemoth a few times before and they were always great... but seeing them live again after everything... it's going to be even more powerful.

I will see you there! :heavydrink:

Thanks for the Watain comments Rhia - hopefully they will come through the US again someday... or better yet - be on Barge to Hell! (which needs tons more black metal anyway. :P :beerwink: )

Watain have added a few headlining shows (with Black Anvil opening) after the Behemoth tour is over. They're playing in Joliet, IL on May 16.
All the cool kids are going Ragnarokkr, MDF and Tuska in 2013!
