They are my nr. 1 band when it comes to music, but also they are awesome and very nice in person.
Oh and I have to correct myself: 2007 and 2010.
They are awesome. A 10/10 for me.

rwalters wrote:I've never heard of Kampfar in my entire life and they'll be getting 40 minutes on the small stage both sets so I generally could care less. Good for their fans though.
While Soilwork fucking eats cock these days, I still LOVE their first four albums. As long as they play something off Steelbath, Chainheart, Predator's, and Natural Born Chaos, I'll be happy as shit. Natural Born Chaos is a landmark release. Nobody ever did anything like that before and it's far more interesting than their copy / paste At the Gates days.
GREAT ADD. Let's get swedes At The Gates and Dark Tranquillity on next. Make it fucking happen.
I would have put Soilwork on my wish list for sure if I thought they'd have a chance to be on this cruise. Wichers is the FUCKING MAN!

rwalters wrote:I dont' like black metal. I don't even like black metal that black metal fans dont' like or consider to be black metal in Cradle/Dimmu. The closest I can handle is newer Nachtmystium. Do they sound like that?
I also hate power metal in the vein of manowar, hammerfall, stratovarius. I like Blind Guardian for some reason :)
I'm open and generally like everything else. Including alot of the more mainstream american bands like Mastodon/Shadows Fall/Lamb of God.
Warphine, I just posted about this.

LAMB OF GOD, MACHINE HEAD, SUICIDE SILENCE and ANTHRAX will join forces for the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival cruise, set to take place later this year. The news was first revealed by MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn during an interview with Metal Injection on the "black carpet" of the fourth annual Revolver Golden Gods awards, which was held on April 11 at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles, California.

KevinP wrote:Which also means that is the cruise that Machine Head is on. Hopefully that completely rules out of this.
Besides that cruise, with the announced bands, already looks like a mainstream-ish douchefest of epic proportions. You know there will be tons of security and people running interference between fan/band.

mooyagi wrote:Wasn't there a rumor for last year's cruise that Lamb of God turned it down because of worries of fans mobbing the singer?

rwalters wrote:Pretty sure that rumor is false based on them doing a cruise. He would absolutely get mobbed by fans though.
That kampfar ain't my thing bro. This is what I mean by newer Nachtmystium. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwMSPfiNlqY
I do not understand Kevin's hate for most metal bands. Is there even a relatively successful metal band you even like?

rwalters wrote:I agree UMC's theme is to bring more underground bands (to US fans), but there was a reason that on 70K that the more popular bands like Nightwish, Children of Bodom, and Overkill WERE PACKED and bands like My Dying Bride and Samael were like 1/5th capacity. Don't tout your elitist horn that much bro.

rwalters wrote:Ok fair enough.
I don't think Blackguard is doing too well and will probably break up soon. I think they sound like shitty Children of Bodom. Their frontman is pretty energetic live. They had that going for them.

rwalters wrote:Samael at the theater wasn't packed man. It was like 4am though........ That smaller stage takes like 50 people to be packed so that doesn't count when there are 2000 people on the cruise.
rootleaf wrote:I skipped Nightwish's first show for Samael. I waited an hour before all 4 Samael and MDB sets to get on the rail, so to me they were both packed because I couldn't see anything but people behind me. I did swing by the Nightwish show in the theater after Samael finished up and it was the fullest show I saw for sure. And Nightwish and Overkill and all those bands are still relatively unknown bands. Ask any non-metal head who they are and you'll mostly get blank stares. Ask them who Slayer, Iron Maiden, Pantera, or any of those are and most will have at least heard of them. McDonald's sells more hamburgers than local burger places, doesn't mean their burger is better.
Stained Class wrote:Actually I find as many people have heard of Nightwish as Megadeth. That's probably just my circle though.

KevinP wrote:Heard of these icelanders before. From what I remember they were kinda psychedlic rock-ish, not something I would ever have guessed fit the theme. Then again, it's a "loose theme"![]()
Wasn't Laura all apeshit about them?

Okay been listening to snippets of a few songs. This is no good. Metal Archives said their older stuff is black/viking so I'll try to find some old material but the new crap ain't even metal.
"gimme my wishlist"

I'm not really adverse to varied styles of stuff. I just can't mentally (at least at this point) get all jazzed up about bands not on my radar, until I get a wishlist or two added. Then I become happy and much more open minded.
Granted once they stop announcing bands and I know the lineup (good, bad, indifferent), then I look at things for what they are. But until then,"gimme my wishlist"

mooyagi wrote:We almost have half the bands for Barge now. Maybe they'll announce one more to finish preregistration and then open up booking

I'm guessing that's what they will do with the midnight post announcing the closure of the pre-registration phase. Who will it be!?

KevinP wrote:mooyagi wrote:Wasn't Laura all apeshit about them?
When is she not apeshit about a band? Listening to a song now. Has black metal elements in it but not liking it so far.
KevinP wrote:True, her meter with bands is very limited:
Love
Froth
Orgasm
most of them fall into the later 2 categories![]()
