Last gig: Negură Bunget last night at a tiny club I'd never been to called the Ultra Lounge in Chicago (the room where the bands play holds maybe 100 people people tops) As I expected I would be - I was quite blown away by them. :D The odd thing of course is that I believe the drummer is the only original member - so that the rest of the band are very recent adds and therefore are not the same people you see in most youtubes and press photos. I talked with the lead singer briefly afterward and he said he had only been with them about 6 months or so! But here is the cool thing - they sounded fantastic and could recreate the sound of the original recordings really, really well. I thought the singer in particular was outstanding and he looked very young (20s?) - so that original band would have began when he was just a young kid! Anyway - it was a truly mind blowing kind of experience - *totally* my kinda thing. Even though I only recently started listening to them, I knew every song they did note for note (except for one). Their vibe and atmosphere is reminiscent to me of Agalloch - but in some ways, I find even *more* appealing (and that's saying a lot because I love Agalloch and their show last year was a huge highlight for me). There's this whole Romanian/Transylvanian spiritual/ethereal/spooky thing going on with them that adds a whole other dimension. Wow. Also, they said the band (in any line-up form) had *never* been to the United States, so it was a real treat to stand right in front of the stage.

Next gig: RAMMSTEIN Friday night - another absolute favorite of mine. :D

Last gig: DragonForce/Holy Grail/Huntress. Got bored as I knew no one at the show. The (small) crowd was all video game nerds that don't go to shows.
Next gig: Negura Bunget tonight. Looking forward to it. If I really enjoy the show, I will plan to catch them at Maryland Deathfest also. Hoping they get some people to show up for the local show tonight.

Last show i went to was a house party/show on 4-20, with about 5 local bands. Gorgon Stare, Compulsive Slasher, Motorthrone, Raptor, Gate of the Gods, and Raw & Order in no particular order.

My next show is Overkill playing tonight. Should be a really good one. They were amazing at the cruise during both of their identical sets. Hope to see them mix it up this time.

The Overkill show in Seattle was amazing! So happy to hear a great song list! I didn't see Diamond Plate on the cruise, but I must say I was impressed! Great energy!

Next gig is Dragonforce on Saturday.

Last night’s show (Saturday May 28, 2012) was awesome at the Amsterdam Bar in St. Paul.
It was a record release party. I forgot just how good All The Pretty Horses are. They kind of fell off of the local music scene and it was a re-introduction of the band. First record in 10 years.
This is what Minnesota produces when you mix Prince with Twisted Sister, Wendy O Williams of the Plasmatics, and healthy dose of David Bowie. You get Minnesota’s own All The Pretty Horses.
I dare Andy to book this band on the next cruise. Metal Beetches be scared. LOL

The warm up band was called El Le Phant http://youtu.be/ZtWt2xZhEGA which also was releasing their record and in between acts was a Burlesque show. LOL :boobs: :wank:

I am very sure that there will be a lot of WTF!

Next show is Mastodon, Opeth, and Ghost this Monday 5/7/12.

Last gig: Rammstein last night (I'm speechless  - in a good way :D - may write up something on the Rammstein thread later ;) )

Next gig: at this moment the next shows I have tickets for aren't till the end of June -
Styx, REO Speedwagon, & Ted Nugent on June 24 and Ministry on June 29. Lots of other shows I'm interested between now and then, but I think I'm going to pass on them (to save for Barge!). In addition, there are many free outdoor music events of all kinds in the summer here - so really looking forward to those - especially the classical series at Millennium Park, neighborhood street fests, and so on.

Last gig was Unearth/Black Dahlia Murder with State of Integrity and a couple local bands, that was a couple months ago.

Next gig will be Capital Punishment next weekend, a 12 hour metal fest with mostly local bands and one Aussie band.

Then June 1st I see Tim "Ripper" Owens on his solo tour of NZ :D

back when I lived in Boston in the late 90s and early turn of the century, I used to average 5 shows per week (it helped always being on the guest list)... and frankly I miss that era of my life... a LOT

 I sometimes feel the same way - I love reading Kay's gig posts though. I think it was determined on a few different threads (having to do with 2011 gig lists, 70k sets seen, and so on) that he gets the award for that kind of thing. Pretty awesome, if you ask me, if one has the time, money, & flexibility to do so much. :D I went to 5 shows in 4 weeks recently starting with Paganfest in early April and ending last Friday with Rammstein (with Behemoth, Death Cab for Cutie, and Negura Bunget in between). That was a lot for me. :P The thing is that I get so totally invested & immersed at a show - both mentally & physically (and especially those 5 because they are some top favorites of mine - it becomes a very intense visceral & emotional thing for me*)...I prefer to have those kinds of experiences more spread out, but sometimes that's the way it works out tour wise. Ha - kinda glad I'm taking a gig break until June.

*come to think about it - I also went to a few killer dance performances and museum exhibits (both art & history), as well as a very intense dramatic play (all with my family) in the month of April - so it was quite the month for visual and aural overload... loved it actually.

Heheh and this is the quiet time, just before the start of the festival season :D

I guess we're a bit spoiled in western Europe, with so many shows in a relatively small area (and why wouldn't I take advantage of that?). E.g. for Paradise Lost and Swallow the Sun I'm still in doubt between the shows in Cologne and Bochum, and those places are only 80 km apart... Likewise there are also tours with shows in Kerkrade and Verviers, with only 55 km in between! :?

Last show: Mastodon & Ghost last night. Opeth cancelled as they were setting the stage up for the band. Apparently Åkerfeldt fell & hit his head on the bus. He had a cut that required medical attention/stitches. Mastodon went on earlier & added a couple of songs to their set. Pissed that we lost one of the headliners.
:bitch:

Next show: Rammstein tonight.

R.E.O. was one of my favourite Bands in the Seventies. Saw them in 1982 and 2006. They're always on the Road - but never there where i am. Styx are ok, Ted Nugent is an Idiot .....

Last Thursday: Insense, Nightrage, Deadlock, Demon Hunter at Matrix, Bochum.
Missed this Night, because i had to work: UFO ......

Next Shows: maybe Roger Waters and/or Greg Lake in Portland/OR
Next Shows to miss: Van Halen and Santana in Las Vegas. I'll be a few Days late.....

  Sorry for the late reply on this....cool to hear you're an REO fan! I've seen them 4 times I think (need to check my master gig list to confirm :P ) - twice in their late 70s/early 80s heyday and in more recent years - 1990s sometime at a REO/Foreigner/Frampton gig and about 5-6 years ago at a suburban 4th of July fest in Naperville, Illinois. They are such a great band I think...really all three on that bill I love equally - huge bands for me in the late 70s and Iove them all to this day. I know Ted Nugent is a dick for all he spouts off about - but I really love his 70s albums...I attempted to "defend" him (rather his music) recently on this forum here: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1935&p=178353&hilit=ted+nugent#p178353

Some of my favorite albums from around 1976-78 were these:

and many may know this already...but worth mentioning I think (to me anyway) - that all three groups are from my home state of Illinois which I think is kinda cool.

There are so many 70s/80s group (what I call) retro  tours this summer - bloody hell!    My husband and I are just a few months apart in age so we have a HUGE shared love of 60s, 70s & 80s music in particular. Besides the Nugent/Styx/REO gig, we're also seeing a B-52s/Squeeze gig in July and a Yes/Procul Harum gig in August. We just saw Yes last year (for me it was 6th time), but when we saw the double bill with P.H. - we were like - gotta go!!! Procul Harum's song Whiter Shade of Pale is one of both of our favorite songs ever - if anyone has not seen this video from 1967 - check it out! awesome!

just found out Ghoul will be in Pittsburgh on May 21, so I'll be there... don't care for the other bands, but for only $8 just Ghoul is enough for me!

For REO, favorite tune is “Back on the Road Again”. Album goes to “Hi In Fidelity”.
http://youtu.be/ItffKHsHqUg Still sucks that Kevin and Gary Richrath can’t make peace.

For Styx, there are just too many of their songs which count as favorites of mine but “Pieces of Eight” and “Paradise Theatre” are my favorite albums of theirs.

For Ted Nugent, Stranglehold is his best and favorite tune of mine but his best all-around record is “Free for All”. http://youtu.be/mV1zNs_u3OU

hmmm....hard for me to pick my very favorite songs from any of the three...although I can safely say that Lady by Styx is one of my very favorite love songs ever....and haha - I remember it being the big song at an 8th grade dance I went to. :P

Damn... Wish I could turn back the clock one week when I was leaving work at exactly this time and on my way to see Rammstein. A week later, and I'm still in awe over that whole experience. Yowsa!!
