You're just angry because the cup is guaranteed to stay in the US where it belongs

Nah, I let go of that sentiment a long time ago. Half of all the teams are Canadian anyways so it makes no difference where the team is based. It' just cus every single one of my picks was eliminated in the first round.

You sure? That sounds like my post from way back, when I predicted Vancouver to win the President's Trophy and lose in the first round. (And got chewed out by Rob for it. Though I thought it would be Dallas in 8th.) I thought LA would get their shit together far earlier, being my pick to win the Cup, but it looks like they are rolling now.

It's nice to see some surprises and most of the favorites gone.

Yeah, I looked back at my predictions and I definitely had LA in the Final losing to Pitt.

It has been a great Playoffs to see so far. It has been very unpredictable, which is great.

St Louis have a very big hole to dig themselves out of, mostly because they did not score a single goal in LA this year, being shut out on both occasions.

I'm predicting the Preds to wake up tonight and take this one but I don't know if they can carry that through the rest of this series. It's going to be tough.

Figured Rinne would have a good game at some point. Phoenix was doomed by their bad start. Going into 3OT in Washington!

It was. Phoenix had some chances but Preds defense was way better than last game. I didn't pick Pekkes for the shut out in the HT challenge but I don't mind dropping that one.

Under the Kings - Blues recap a Vancouver fan wrote to St. Louis fan

"unreal.. you have 2 amazing goalies and a very overrated team..losing 3 nothing in a series.. blaming the coach now too.. you sure you arent a vancouver fan??"

For some reason, I find that amusing :P

PS: I know you all have NHL Play-Off fever but if anyone is interested, World Championship starts today and all matches will be live and free to watch on the official IIHF youtube channel. Going through rosters, it seems that Canada, Russia and Sweden are to be the title contenders this year.

That more like the games we've been expecting where it's just a 1 goal difference. I didn't think Smith had control of the puck on the disallowed goal but you're not going to get the decision when the goalie is pushed in like that control or not.

I don't actually think he was pushed in either. Definitely didn't have control of the puck. Will need to see a replay later.

It was totally a good goal from all I could see. Ref should've shared the rationale for disallowing it when he made the announcement but he failed there too. Oh well, getting calls to go your way is just another part of playoff puck luck

The goal was after the whistle, but it seems the ref blew the whistle too soon

Ahh okay. I sort of lost track of the whole whistle issue cuz I was focused on the puck and the pushing in front. When it's a 'whistle-based' non-goal call, that really leaves a lot of it to referee discretion as everyone in the building might be able to see the puck but, if the ref loses sight, he can call it dead. As well, the ref can base the result on when he 'intended' to blow the whistle vs. when he actually blew it. So there's a LOT of wiggle room in there. Too bad on that one though as it was a good hard-working goal that should've counted imho. I always prefer the results to be based on what the players do and not what the refs do (or don't do).

Yeah, true. We watched a video afterwards to check and the whistle defitinely blew before the goal.

Of course! I think Nuux is the only one on here who likes them :D.

Phoenix played excellently but I definitely think facing Detroit in the first round got into the heads of the Preds.
After it was done everyone was acting like we'd won the Cup, yay we beat the Red Wings in a playoff series, umm now what? The local media attention calmed down, especially with the week break. The local TV even blacked out Game 3, I mean wtf?!! I was talking about the series to a colleague at work and their response was " oh is that still on, I thought we won?". Granted they're a dipshit in general so it's not surprising.

It's a shame because apart from game 2 they were all really tightly fought.

They were. It was a great series and both teams(and goalies) were great. I hope Smitty gets more credit now. And you guys taking out Detroit probably kept us in the playoffs, seeing how they've knocked out the 'Yotes twice.

I kinda like the Kings too. Their AHL affiliate plays in New Hampshire. That being said, I'll be rooting for the Coyotes to pull off the upset (how can an 8-seed be favored over the 3 you say? Kings have looked just that good.) Either way, I'll definitely be rooting for the Western Conference champion to hoist the cup.

I only like them because of a fellow countryman Anze Kopitar.

Little known facts about hockey in Slovenia, where AK-11 is from:
- we have 9 (yes, nine) skating rinks, where 9 clubs play hockey
- we have only 2 major clubs, the rest usually play with youngsters
- we have just over 200 registered players
- out of those 200, 2 are playing in NHL (one is a super-star in LA, the other one (Jan Mursak) is still learning the ropes of NHL with the Red Wings)

PS: How 'bout them Coyotes & Kings? Who would have thought before the play-offs? :P

I get that most of you are all about Stanley Cup right now but I think my rejoicing fits better here than in the rejoice thread.

My native Sweden comfortably beat Denmark (where we live) in the World Championships yesterday and I can breathe again. Denmark has no business beating Sweden of course but eventually the impossible will happen, and I will have to perform a very expensive face transplant to ever be able to meet the few hockey interested Danes I know.

So now Laura can breathe out. The 70k/face transplant budget is safe for another cruise :)

I can certainly understand the relief. The Danes are not exactly renowned hockey giants. I know in the NHL there's Nielsen for the Ilanders and Hansen for the Canucks and that's about it.

And Boedker for the Coyotes

...the World Championships...

So, Fredrik, do we have to watch the final when you're in Finland if/when Sweden and Finland are playing? I'm not much of a hockey fan, but do watch some of the Finnish matches on the Olympics or World Championships.

Swiss really giving Canada a run for their money on the PVRd game I'm watching from this morning. Haven't been following the Worlds much but am looking forward to the semis and onward.

Got a HT tonight but the system is showing the game as having gone into OT so will have to wait til they correct it to see how many others got HTs tonight too :headbanger:
Withdrawal pains
