Haha - well, there must be something wrong with me too....because I've never listened to this band.![]()
Let's face it...there are just *too many* good bands (and books and movies and places to visit and things to do and on and on)... I know I'll never scratch the surface of everything I want to do and experience in my lifetime. *sighs*

I wouldn't really call Death extreme metal, but if you're not used to death metal I can see that. Nor would I say they have low production value, I'm not a fan of that sort of thing myself most of the time. But it's old, after all. The reissued version of Human is quite nice. Definitely my favorite Death album! Sean Reinert > Gene Hoglan any day.

You've probably noticed from my posts that my music tastes are all over the place...largely in part due to my age and the countless bands and artists that I've enjoyed since the 60s - so, there's a forever expanding cumulative body of music I love. Black metal is my favorite genre overall (major reason why I went to Norway the past two summers in fact), but there's so much more, metal and other-genre wise of course. This morning I bought tickets for my husband & I (early 23rd anniversary gift to him) to see Peter Gabriel in September do his album So (25th anniversary now of that album) performed in its entirety. Then there are the Barge to Hell bands I don't know that I need to bone up on, the many cool industrial bands recently discussed on the Industrial Metal Thread, and so on. Death is gonna have to wait.

Well they are extreme cus when I first got into metal I couldn't get into them because of the voice. Everyone has their own ideas about what is extreme or not and really it's all relative, but in the grand scheme I would definitely say they fall under the umbrella of 'extreme'. And yeah, it's low production for today's standard but most people seem to think that anything that has "good production for today's standards" is "overproduced". Never understood the concept of "overproduction" except in cases like Metallica where it's so compressed there's actually static noise on the master tracks. I've been really into bands that they had a huge influence on for a couple years now (Arch Enemy, Arsis, Obscura, Atheist) but for some reason never actually went to listen to them.

Didn't mean to imply that I would never listen to Death, just not a big priority right now. You've probably noticed from my posts that my music tastes are all over the place...largely in part due to my age and the countless bands and artists that I've enjoyed since the 60s - so, there's a forever expanding cumulative body of music I love. kvanderwyk wrote:All true, good points. I guess I never considered them extreme because they were one of the first bands I listened to when I started listening to metal and I thought my tolerance for most metal to be not as great back then. Just goes to show that indeed it's all in the ear of the beholder. I will stop derailing this thread now!
I'll say that I'm now listening to Dew-Scented per Warphine's post, and I dig it! Have not listened to them very much before now.

Same here. Waiting to form an opinion until I've listened to it a couple times but so far it's not grabbing me like Mechanize did.
