WTF? Have to wait 24 hours now?

So I signed up to book a cabin. It seems that this is a "booking request", and not a confirmation. Now I have to wait 24 hours to wait for confirmation? I presently have finger nails...I won't by tomorrow at this time if the confirmation is not in my e-mail!!!

Standard procedure. All people who send in a request wait until UMC can process it. Sometimes it happens very quickly, sometimes it takes a while. Sit tight. If you got your request in you'll be fine. It may take a little longer than usual just because I'd expect a lot of requests to come in and they only have so many people processing them.

My cabinmate claims he booked last week and we have the booking code and whatnot (Room 4051), but it's been a week now and he never received a confirmation. Or I'm missing a bunch of information.

Getting concerned now, I haven't put down any money for it yet but I want to make sure he reserved the room.

you could probably email UMC and ask if they have all the passenger information for room 4051!

We hopped onbroad last night (we debated because we don't like the line-up too much so far, but it's so hard not to book when it's only a 5 hour drive), but my credit card apparently isn't secure enough or some shit so I haven't been able to pay yet :roll: I left UMC a voicemail today, but I'm sure it's a cluster there today with the general booking so I don't have a high hope for a callback. We were suprised the double cabins sold out the first two decks so fast; we kind of got a forced deck 4 upgrade this year. Oh, excuse me:

You actually need to call your credit company to clear the payment - it's done to prevent online fraud. Lots of us had that problem that was cleared once you called you CC company.

yup, i had to call my credit card company too - then payment went through with no problem.

a lot of scam artists use Moneybookers so seeing that company shuts credit card transactions down automatically in many cases. I wish UMC used someone more trustworthy.

I would have hoped that they dump moneybookers by now given all the issues that the customers have had, but I guess not. Curious what the advantages are for the company to keep using them.

UMC will let you do a bank transfer and pick up the transfer fee. That way Moneyboogers doesn't get their cut of the transaction, you don't have to deal with MB's horrible service and invasive policies (they wanted me to send copies of personal documents to which I told them to fuck themselves), and you make the whole deal a lot more uncomplicated. You probably will also get to talk with one of UMC's delightful customer service people when you request the bank transfer info. :beerwink:

Agreed. Transfer fees can be expensive. I think if they moved to something like PayPal, or another easy to use system of payment then more people would pay by credit card. If the credit fee for the company is less than the wire fee, I can see them spending less on covering the fees if enough people use credit card.

That being said, it's really nice of UMC to pay for the transfer fees. They can add a lot to the final price.

Agreed! I've still been unable to pay them, and they're totally cool about it, basically like "eh, we'll get it figured out". Bank of America is not blocking my card, and Moneybookers informed me that I simply cannot use my card "for security reasons" and are suggesting I use another one. Unfortunately, my other card is an AMEX, which they don't accept :roll: Instead of sending me angrygrams about their missing monies UMC has told me to take my time, try my passenger's card and if none of that works we'll try the wire transfer sometime next week lmao. I had zero problems making CC payments for 70K 2011 & 2012, but have for Barge because MB is no longer doing business with anyone in Illinois. :lol: (which I find somewhat humorous) So, I've had to trot over to my bank each time to make the quarterly payment transfers. My bank charges a very hefty fee for this which UMC is covering. I suspect UMC is losing money on me (and my already cheap-ass quad cabin spot :lol: ) which is too bad really because they have such a great product that I want to fully support. I offered to mail them checks directly, but they said to just continue with the bank transfers.

Agreed! I've still been unable to pay them, and they're totally cool about it, basically like "eh, we'll get it figured out". Bank of America is not blocking my card, and Moneybookers informed me that I simply cannot use my card "for security reasons" and are suggesting I use another one. That's exactly what happened to me. It was due to my card expiring (even though the new one with the same number arrived in the mail :roll:). I don't have another card, so it's wire transfers from now on unless UMC switch to another company for the payments.

I know Kate, how dare we be fiscally responsible and only have 1 or 2 credit cards! :lol: I suspect the boy's card will get rejected too, and then I'll probably do a transfer. Luckily for UMC, I've got Platinum status through my bank so they won't be charging them a transfer fee. My biggest issue has been that not only do I work 12 hour shifts, I've been working overnight, so I've had to be sleeping when the banks are actually open. I just don't recall having any of these payment issues last year :?

Having an odd schedule does make it really hard to get to banks. Luckily I have one nearby that is open half days on Saturday

I think it's more for security reasons, since you can do almost everything else online
