I saw their Wacken set is advertised as a "Slaughter of the Set", what are the chances we might get one too?
Quite possible .. for at least one of their two setsDanny24601 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 4:32 pm I saw their Wacken set is advertised as a "Slaughter of the Set", what are the chances we might get one too?
At The Gates is doing a huge tour with Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy and Grand Magus through north America late fall. If ATG is on I wouldn't be surprised to see one or all of them as well, so count that as a predictionDanny24601 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 4:32 pmI saw their Wacken set is advertised as a "Slaughter of the Set", what are the chances we might get one too?
Have I seen Amon Amarth a lot in my life? Yes. Would I be so hella hype if they got announced? Also yes.PotatoPotahto wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 4:36 pmAt The Gates is doing a huge tour with Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy and Grand Magus through north America late fall. They are always a joy to behold, and some wonderful people in that band too. Seen them 7 times so far and would be more than happy to add to that :)
What’s so special about having them come back 9 years later? Shouldn’t this logic apply to 2021?Evican wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 12:33 pmI say 100%. They have just (pretty much) confirmed it by replying to my comment.Danny24601 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 10:35 am Epica just announced a short run of NA dates with a suspicious gap between January 5th and January 12th........
I give them 90%+ chance of being on 70k next year.
Further evidence.. it's both Design Your Universe and 70K's 10th anniversary AND Epica were one of the first 11 or so bands that were announced for the very first cruise in 2011, so it stands to reason that they and a lot of the other maiden voyage bands will be returning for 2020.
No, because 2020 is the TENTH YEAR of 70K, not the 9th. Maybe the below will help..
EPICA is celebrating the 10th anniversary of this album, which came out in 2009.
I agree. Simple language difference but I'll do my best to explain.Godflesh wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 8:04 pmEPICA is celebrating the 10th anniversary of this album, which came out in 2009.
The first 70K was in 2011.
How are you connecting those two events?
Right, one of them celebrates a unique event, while the other celebrates 10 unique events, and that’s what they’re proud of, having made ten of them (like the 100th show in show business).PotatoPotahto wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 8:35 pmI agree. The cruise is coming up on Round 10, the 10th cruise, but not the 10th anniversary. It's the 9th anniversary. The first anniversary would be in 2012. The inaugural cruise, in 2011, was the 0th anniversary, but was round 1.
Design Your Universe was released Oct 16, 2009. That date was the 0th anniversary. Oct 16, 2010 would have been the first. October 16, 2019, will be the 10th anniversary.
While no formal legitimate link between the two, it still could be kind of neat to see the 10th anniversary of DYU on Round 10 of the cruise
While Andy will probably feel sentimental on January 24th 2021 since it'll be the 10th anniversary of UMC's first sailing, it's certainly a much bigger deal to him to have RoundX, the 10th 70k sailing, than what will be the 11th sailing (12th UMC sailing if you wanna count Barge, haha). It's a bigger accomplishment/milestone to do something 10 times than it is to do something 11 times. It's just the way our very categorical brains work. As such, he probably wants to bring back the bands that agreed to do the first cruise, because they are commemorating this achievement this year - as opposed to celebrating each band having performed there 10 years previous.
--Or he might just be shooting from the hip -- as usual -- and has no "Grand Design" for 2020 at all.Ti7aNiC wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2019 6:25 amWhile Andy will probably feel sentimental on January 24th 2021 since it'll be the 10th anniversary of UMC's first sailing, it's certainly a much bigger deal to him to have RoundX, the 10th 70k sailing, than what will be the 11th sailing (12th UMC sailing if you wanna count Barge, haha). YES, need to see Behemoth again top side at midnight with black smoke billowing from the ship's stacks in the background... "The boat that was going straight to hell" - Cathartic epiphany moment 2015PotatoPotahto wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2019 8:47 am ...
Coincidence? Probably, but here's hoping I'll finally catch my Big #1 on BOAT
I really hope you're right. I loved them on the boat last time, and saw them this year at Wacken Winter Nights. They've only gotten better since 2017.CaughtInAWeb wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2019 8:30 am Here is one prediction:
SALTATIO MORTIS
Since 2015 Andy has been booking one of the big German Mittelalter metal bands (In Extremo, Saltatio Mortis and Subway to Sally). If we follow the same rotation, this year is Saltatio's turn.
Yep. Same here. It was the moment when I decided "Fuck it, I'm gonna HAVE to do this again in 2016."Bob wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2019 7:42 amYES, need to see Behemoth again top side at midnight with black smoke billowing from the ship's stacks in the background... I'm not sure how accurate we usually are for our predictions but hot fuck if that "PREDICTIONS" section is even 50% correct I'm gonna freak out.cowboy71 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2019 6:21 pm Need a new category I think.

It would be a massive coup if Andy scored Mercyful Fate. I've heard that King is a paranoid/hypochondriac kind of guy so a boat would not be the ideal scenario for him
It's funny how big it would be now, but 20 years ago they really were not that big.
Hypochondriac? He’d love WASHY WASHY then!! He’d probably join them.
