I bought a couple of the new wave of thrash band cds cause I liked the covers. They were done by I think his name is ed repka who did some of the classic covers for Megadeth and others.

What a mistake that was, the albums were totally lame. they were to old school thrash what metalcore is to death metal. Well maybe not that bad but pretty close.

I still feel that any metalhead that DOESN'T go to shows/concerts is halfassed... and I think the internet age has drastically lead to increased halfassedness </rant>

There was a certain adventure and adrenaline rush involved in buying an album just because you liked the cover and it was pot luck when you listened to it. You could usually tell what genre it was so it wasnt a complete blind gamble.

I did that with a Death metal band called Runemagick from Sweden

and various power and heavy metal bands
I have to admit i am guilty of checkign out bands because they have cool names and album covers.

I still regret buying that Golem album. What a piece of shit.

Don't confuse this band with the "Inquisition" who resides north of Seattle, Washington, USA..

:D Sorry but they need to take that back to a garage in Chile.

If you like Swallow the Sun, check out Remembrance

Also discovered this band yesterday

I don't really like the main vocals, I think the backup ones are much better but they aren't too bad.

Astriaal are one of my all time favorite Australian bands. I've got both albums and even the Glories of the Night Sky demo. I haven't seem them for quite a while of course because they've only recently started playing again and just released the new album. Not sure of their plans to tour overseas but they've been hitting the Oz east coast circuit.

A few new (to me) bands I've been listening to lately:

Vektor - Sci-Fi Thrash (early era Voivod influence is pretty apparent, just look at their logo)
Black Future: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsudyBzPGEI&feature=related
Accelerating Universe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVFR7uKYA6A&feature=related

Armor Column - Thrash with the old school style vocals. Noah Carpenter who was in Skinless is one of the guitarists. High pitched screams kinda get to me after a while, but musically they're solid.
With Blood & Vengeance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64GrXbEmMN8

Gigan - Tech Death They're one of the openers on the upcoming Grave tour so I thought I'd check their stuff out.
The Raven & the Crow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QfO-zsnnqA

Nocturnal - Teutonic Blackened Thrash (Vocalist is quite easy on the eyes)
Slaughter Command (Live) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJfJktQpdKM
Hellhunt - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKi6bAs0Ifc
All the cool kids are going Ragnarokkr, MDF and Tuska in 2013!

Draconic from Serbia.

My singer and his studio partner are mixing some new tracks for them, and they sound awesome!

Can you understand the lyrics? Have you listened to any of their other albums?

Helheim! (Ty Laura). If you like Enslaved's older stuff these guys are on point. If you are more into Enslaved limp wrist progressive offerings (ala Vertebrae and the freebie EP), pass on em.

Riff heavy goodness (trk 1, 5 and 8 are good samplers):

The Journeys And The Experiences Of Death

More atmosphere-ish goodness (Trk 1,2, and 5 are good. trk 2 has some dude from taake).

Heidindomr Ok Motgangr (??? someone from norway would have to translate that one)

I don't speak Hungarian... so no. My grandma taught me a few words when I was little but I forgot them all. ;)

BENTZ, did they totally scrap Hour of Penance or is that put on hiatus ?

I thought that Francesco Paoli (vocalist) was the only shared member and according to Metal Archives Hour of Penance has a new vocalist.

I'm quick like an evil bunny!

That new Fleshgod Apocalypse song does indeed slay. With the hype/momentum building, I expect / hope these guys to be everywhere in the coming year. Maybe even on 70k Tons 2012????
