Hangover cure of the day.... Murphy's Irish Stout.

Edit: It's the same beer, but doesn't have "Irish" in the title anymore. And It's also brewed and distributed by Scottish and Newcastle.

Now before I start getting shit that it's the piss beer of whatever country, the Fosters, the Corona, the Heineken, the Becks, etc. It's an easy drink, and QUIT SENDING YOUR SHITTY BEER TO AMERICA! Everyone keeps their best stuff for themselves. SHARE!

DAMN!

Score! Beer bar in town has the Great Divide Yeti! Featuring Great Divide beers all weekend. Well, I know where I'm catching the Women's World Cup game :givebeer:

Might not be the same you had. This one is a chocolate oak aged Yeti. Still sounds great!

Old Ruffian (I think. Kinda hard to read the picture)
Claymore
Titan IPA
Smoked Baltic Porter

The porter was pretty damn good though nothing spectacular. A couple of them they had run out of last night (notably the Yeti) and failed to update their beer list online

Decided to go with the cheaper option after the porter and not have the other kinds that were still on tap. :beerwink:

Ugh I had a sample of this terrible smoked porter sunday night. It was like drinking liquid smoke. Ended up following that sample up with a Festina Peche and a bunch of random IPAs

Hrmm, I really cant think of it now. To get a similar taste all you need to do is grill up some BBQ, burn it all hell, then inhale the smoke. I normally dont mind smoked porters but this one was way too overpowering.

mmmmm Sour beers *drool* Sours are slowly becoming my favorite style, but they arent on tap often and the bottles are usually too expensive for me to randomly buy.

Yea ive noticed sours can be really hit or miss too. Ive had some farmhouse wild ale that just tasted rancid as hell, but I love a good sour beer. Girl and I found out that the Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien tastes really good until the end of the keg. We had the bottom keg at the bar and it was soo sour it was almost undrinkable haha.

I've had one that tasted exactly like you've described yours, just with a hint of burnt bacon on the end  It was from Hollister Brewing Company in California. It was a special one time brew and I can't remember what it was called.

Heh, I just realized I never posted about the Seattle Beerfest at the beginning of the month. It was an odd year for me, once I got there I realised I wasn't really interested in drinking most of the beers they had available, and I wasn't even sick!

I finally solved the problem by going on a kriek and lambic binge, since they had several there I'd never had before. The 3 Fontainen Schaerbeekse Kriek was amazing! After that I went through the supply of Flanders Reds and sour browns and finally settled down to a couple of interesting beers I hadn't tried before, a vanilla and cocoa stout from Dieu du Ciel called Aphrodite (also known as Aphrodisiac), and a very unusual one from our local place, Odin Brewing, called Thor's Equinox, a Belgian strong style with angelica. Yes, Gnoff, this area was heavily settled by Norwegians and Swedes and it shows.

This weekend we're headed off to another beerfest across Puget Sound. Don't know if we're going to drive around or take the ferry yet. Myself I want the ferry, but that's because most of my life has been spent living on an island and I feel sad when I can't smell the saltwater (we're only about 3 miles away from the water, but the wind rarely blows up to us). Last Saturday was spent at a bellydancing festival, followed by cold pilsners and hefeweizens and fish & chips. A pretty perfect sort of day.

Not to be misstaken for the one sold as "Tradition" though, but ratebeer collects them both under the same one
Cherry beer to the sweet side, the tradition one is very evident in the chacter from spontaneous fermentation, so that one is rather sour (but oh so gooood)

I tried this beer tonight, I really like it! I found it better than the chocolate one, it's not as strong and of course sweeter.

The liquor store across the street from me is starting to carry some Swedish beers so im prety excited about that. They now have Hantverksbryggeriet, Baronen Barley Wine and some Ale. I would have taken a picture of the ale but I forgot my phone at home when I went. I got the Barley Wine name from google since the bottle and label are VERY distinguishable haha.

I was trying to find the Green Tea IPA Collaboration but didnt have any luck.

The Bremerton Brewfest this weekend was fun, but they greatly underestimated the crowd that would show up. There werre no chairs, tables, or spare canopies for shade, just standing around in the sun in the middle of a blocked-off street on the warmest day this year. Most of the small breweries had blown their kegs by 6pm, when the festival was supposed to run until 8 or 9, so the lines for the few remaining breweries were really long.

Our best surprise was a tiny brewery from Poulsbo, Slippery Pig, that served up a honey hefeweizen flavored with lemon verbena and a pale ale flavored with 10 lb (4 1/2 kg) of stinging nettles in the batch. They also have rhubarb and dandelion ales, so I see a road trip in our near future, with a supply of clean growlers in the trunk. Other real standouts were DerBlokken, 7Seas and Valholl brewing.

Unfortunately for me, an hour on the bow of the ferry plus the unshaded street, followed by an afternoon on a sailboat the next day, was too much for my poor eyes and I ended up with a case of photokeratitis and have spent the time since then hiding from the light and nursing my burning, watering, sunburned eyeballs. Today they're finally feeling about back to normal.

Recently tried the Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout, which was pretty good. (I've been sticking with Imperial Stouts lately, with that one blip of Summer Ales.)

It seemed like a cheaper alternative to the Black Metal Imperial Stout at $9 for 4 12 oz. bottles at 9%. Yum. :givebeer:

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Exotic yet mild lager... Sublime complexity and intriguing malt character glow from this traditional amber lager. The hallmark beer style of Germany's Franconia region, this beer features beech-wood kilned malts for a softly smoky and rich flavor. Overall mild and mellow, this one's a fascinating treat!

haha yea that one is a pass for me. Finished brewing up my Oatmeal stout today so im excited about that :D Just need to pick up some raspberries to add later. I cant wait to see how much better this all grain version will be compared to some stouts ive done in the past.

I actually have a brewing question for you, for the holiday season Im going to brew up a Sweet Potato Winter styled ale. I know how im going to add the sweet potatoes, but my girl was wondering if there was a way to get a slight roasted marshmallow taste in there too. The only thing I can think of is to use a roasted malt and then add vanilla beans, since after my Blackberry Imperial Stout disaster ive banned the use of extract, to the secondary. I could only really find 1 decent answer on a forum so I was trying to get more feedback before trying

tried one of these for the first time today. Not my favorite beer. Average and overpriced, IMHO.

Although it did bring me laughs. The cork shot off too easily and was (not exaggerating) half an inch from destroying a hanging light in my parents house. Also, it foamed so fast that for about 10 minutes I just had a full glass of foam with no actual liquid in it. My friend kept calling it "bubble bath beer."
