Heck as long as a bands production is better than Impaler's, Manilla Road's and a lot of black metal bands, I am pretty easy to make happy. I think part of the charm is the fact they don't have a typical cliche virtuoso singer, if they did they would sound just like the others. I like the roughness.

it's probably just a matter of taste
I know and like bands with worse singer/production/songs ;)

Hell yes. One of the better new thrash bands around. Definitely has that old school feel to it though.

I've been enjoying A Pale Horse Named Death. It is the drummer from LOA/Type-O, Sal Abruscato. The music is a good mix of AIC/LOA/Type-O and his own thing. If any of those bands appeal to you I'd highly recommend it.

There are samples on youtube. One of my fave tracks.

Thats pretty decent and it's cool that Sal is on vocals, just like King Fowley! Drummer/Vocalist

And that was a perfect description of it also! Well done

Hail the King! (Diamond as well since I see you are a fan. :headbanger: ) Unlike King Fowley, Sal got John Kelly to play live so Sal is doing the singer / guitar role. But speaking of Deceased. . . .

Creek of the Dead!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKYnmGt84sM

My fave Deceased track! though still need to listen to their newest album more.

Metal Grave from Chile

Sounds like a start of a true metal version of Mercyful Fate, only a single but they show potential

Hmm, I heard a bit of an agent steel influence in there too. It's all right, but could they not have the solo in tune with the rest of the band or was it intended that way?

Edit: Just noticed you have Blaze Bayley on your wishlist. I saw him live last night. Even in London there were only about 50 people there. He is a really good front man and worked the crowd really well. It was an enjoyable show but I certainly wouldn't put it up in my best...

Poor Blaze, cursed for life. He is doing a US tour, but be won't be coming to Seattle as far as I know. It's a shame cause his solo albums are so good. Pretty sure the UK and USA are both pretty big Blaze haters, where as it seems fans in South America and other parts are Europe are more open minded about him. I went a bar last night that was playing Iron Maiden albums all day from newest to oldest and they just skipped the two blaze albums other then a couple songs with Bruce on vocals and honestly Bruce doesn't do them very well either since both their styles are so different. Kind of like Ripper and Barlow in the Iced Earth deal.

Well glad someone else in the US or UK wanted to see him live. :beerhorns:

Yeah. He did mention that these are the type of gigs that he plays these days. But if he can play in the likes of Brazil to that many people and not be losing money then I say fair play to him. Funnily, my dad asked me 2 months ago if I had heard of blaze bayley because a friend of his had met him in Brazil (not knowing who he was) during some troubles and found him to be very kind and helpful. Strange how the world works.

This is hardcore... so already some of you have stopped reading and don't even care. However, this is not the fake hardcore many of you hardcore haters have heard and judge the entire 30+ year history of the genre on... this is the real deal. In fact, it's mind boggling that this came out this year, not 1997. Featuring members of Trial and Catharsis the band carries preconceived expectations that they blew right out of the water!
So, you can not check this out and just not know... or you can find out why I'd put something here knowing most of you hate the genre. You might just not like it (and if so, so be it), but you just might be surprised!

I tried. Better than what I normally think of when I think of hardcore but definitely still not for me. Didn't appeal to me at all. Ah well.

I've been listening to this ep on repeat most of the day... it makes me feel like a teenager again, so full of urgency and excitement.

Yeah I can get behind this. Thoughtful riffs and songwriting. I'm not up on my hardcore at all, but this reminds me of Propagandhi, a good thing to my ears. I'm not into very much hardcore, but I dig bands like Propagandhi, Converge, Circle Takes the Square, City of Caterpillar and Funeral Diner. That kind of shit. Dunno how legitimate those bands are but I dig 'em

Remind me a lot of early AFI and At the drive in (Both not hardcore more influenced by). The track is more diverse than what I would call the hardcore I listen to (Biohazard, hatebreed, etc.). Some of the other tracks have the rollins spoken word bits.

Wouldn't say I dislike hardcore, just not my go to flavor of metal. But I am in no way a connoisseur of the genre nor good at keeping with labels. ;)

The genre where a band starts off as a good one, but then progressively gets less exciting as they lose members and water down their sound: Regressive Metal.
All the cool kids are going Ragnarokkr, MDF and Tuska in 2013!

The genre where a band starts off as a good one, but then progressively gets less exciting as they lose members and water down their sound: Regressive Metal.

 I was kidding...
But since you brought it up I don't think they slowly got worse or anything like that, maybe the last couple albums depending on your tastes. Regressive metal is pretty funny though

That was my first album by them, and I thought it was okay. Hours that Remain is my favorite by far

Just now heard A Pale Horse Named Death with Type O Negative's drummer. It sounds so much like Type O's sound, but the vocals will never be the same. Peter was such an amazing singer, funny bastard too. This singer gets the job done though, I will say that.

Also, roommate bought some records while he was touring in Europe and I'm just now getting into them. This Finnish band Death With A Dagger is surprisingly good. Sounds like a mix between d-beat punk and heavy metal. Real fun, kind of music to party to.

Really liked parts of it and dug the obvious Rollins influence of the vocalist. Too bad guys with voices like that can't often dial it back very well. Would have liked to have heard some variance in the emotion during the more melodic parts but I guess that's when he steps offstage and gargles with vinegar or something ;)

Seriously though, any tracks off this where he sings during the softer parts or varies his attack much/at all?

Nah, he does spoken parts, and he does his normal vocals... what he has that many lack is the ability to convey urgency while actually having something to say.
