I've been rocking "New Religion" by Primal Fear all day. First time I've listened to them, they are playing Wacken so I have to listen to them at some point. My first impression: "Holy crap is Simone Simmons in everything?" Not that I mind her voice, but there is no avoiding her, she gets in everywhere! Aha that song literally JUST came on right around when I typed "no avoiding her". I'm refering to "Everytime It Rains" for anyone who doesn't know everything about Primal Fear. I also gave Rhapsody a bit of play this morning, I got about 20 minutes in to "The Cold Embrace Of Fear" and gave up because I had yet to hear any guitar/metal...should I give it another chance?
Edit: OK, I mean Rhapsody Of Fire.

I can also recomend Instanzia, I listened to their album 2 or 3 times while I was up in Edmonton (after Marlo and I parted ways, naturally). Super cheesy but I fucking LOVE IT! Cheez ftw. Canadian too :)

Even I struggle a bit with Rhapsody (Of Fire). Their music is just too overblown, even for me!!

Got the new Avantasia double-dvd, double-cd on pre-order from Amazon.co.uk. They have it on special for about 16 pounds, so after VAT is removed it was around 13 pounds. And THEN they are offering free delivery to Australia on orders over 25 pounds so I grabbed an early Sabaton cd I don't have too.

    MORE POWER!

Noticed "Serenity" have a new album out too. Love the name, but haven't entirely loved their first two albums so unsure about getting this latest one.

Also, REALLY interested to see what the Symfonia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symfonia) album is going to come out like!!

    !

I saw Serenity play live when they toured with Blind Guardian and their live performance was really good. That was the first I had heard them so I got one of their albums but it seemed to be missing something that the live show had. I was kind of disappointed.

Nice lineup!! I love Van Canto. I know people hate on them for not playing instruments, being a "cover band" etc. But they are fun, and their last album had 2 cover-versions and 11 original songs - hardly a "cover band".

I would love to see them live :heavydrink:

I actually liked their first album and the cover of battery was comical. But I completely lost faith in them when their 2nd album had only 5 original songs and 5 covers (and I thought the covers were done terribly!!! Their voices were obviously sampled and played through midi or something).

Haven't listened to the latest release tbh. Is it worth it giving a listen?

EDIT: Technically I have seen them live as they provided backing for Grave Digger at their Wacken show last year but I couldn't hear them at all. It was like they turned their mics off or something....

I agree with the second album of Van Canto. I get the feeling that the record label that signed them either forced them to do more covers, or rushed them so much to get the album out that they had no choice BUT to have all those covers on there.

I reckon their latest album is great - the version of Rebellion is fantastic, as is Master of Puppets.

Although if you were interested in buying it, I would recommend getting the limited version that comes with a bonus dvd live at Wakken 2008 as it really adds immeasurably to the value of the whole package.

I agree, the new album is quite awesome, though I didn't think the Master of Puppets cover was all that good. Off the second album, I rather enjoy the Bard's Song cover as well as the originals that they have on there.

That is one thing that annoys me about a lot of power metal albums: Intros, outros and interludes. Sometimes I can understand why they are there like for a rock/metal opera or concept album. But in most cases I'm pretty sure it's just to push the album from having 7 tracks to having 10. It's kind of sad. In this case though the 7 tracks are great!

That being said, the intro builds anticipation for me because Heart of storm is my favorite track of the album. But if i'm bother I do just skip straight to the song.

I suspect even Kevin would enjoy it. Power metal with teeth AND balls! :headbanger:

Has anyone else seen the movie Rawhead Rex? Pretty entertaining.

    Also, great song.

I most likely already told about this band somewhere else - but they are definitely worth mentioning here:
    OLYMPOS MONS
unfortunately, they already split up after two albums
this is the cheesiest song of their debut album

I remember seeing reviews for Rawhead Rexx years ago - they released two albums that I know of, and I remember their second album got really favourable reviews at the time, eg:

I believe it would be remiss of me not to pimp some Aussie power metal.

First up, my good friends LORD. This is a cover version of Kylie Minogue's "On A Night Like This":

Thank you Ravenlord and Last_Candle for the recommendations of the Power Metal bands.
The sound and videos for these bands I really enjoyed. I see my CD collection and Amazon account growing once again. Thanks for providing the links, which further fuelled my curiosity and found myself clicking on some of Dark Moor’s videos. I really enjoyed their Swan Lake. Really Cool.
