I think the last thing we purchased was Charred Walls of the Damned, UDO - Thunderball and Dream Evil.

70000 Tons of Metal Onboard Success: Take Fucking 2! Divorce
kept me from the last one, but I won't take "no" for an answer this time.

Just got the Saxon album, The Inner Sanctum, from 2007.
It has the sound of a well-produced album. Sonic Gold.
It has modern metal tendencies like long intros on some tracks, double-bass moments, choral refrains like "ohhh, ohhhh, ooohhh"
Still has the Saxon roots in Hard Rock.

I give it 5 out of 5 beers.

Started working on my waaaaaay too long 'still to buy'-list today:

Dimmu Borgir - In Sorte Diaboli (Premium Ed. with DVD and mirror)
Kivimetsän Druidi - Betrayal, Justice, Revenge (Ltd. Ed.)
Katatonia - Night Is The New Day
Epica - Design Your Universe (Digi)

Why the hell doesn't that list get any shorter....??

    Hey Tom,

Huge Scorps fan here too, what do you make of Sting in the Tail? I am pretty disappointed with it so far... I was really hoping for a powerhouse record to send them off in a blaze of glory. I think it is more of a fizzle... Ah well, we'll be seeing 'em anyway, have to hear the classics one more time live.

On the other hand, maybe they'll keep doing farewell yours for the next decade (hello Kiss...)

Triumph, Edge of Excess... bought it used since it's out of print and I can see why. Definitly not one of their stronger albums.

HUGE TRIUMPH FAN HERE BRO! HUGE HUGE HUGE. I was crushed when they split and couldn't listen to Edge for yeeeears.... But finally started to cave and listen to it a couple years ago. I will admit, it was fairly good, but soooorely missed Rik Emmett. As for Rik's replacement, I would have much rather seen John Sykes in there instead of Phil X. Sykes was asked but had Thin Lizzy going at the time so couldn't do it. Don't get me wrong, Phil X is a crazy bad ass guitar, but Rik's voice was irreplaceable (IMHO). Phil is still going strong in LA, http://www.facebook.com/people/Phil-Xenidis/577616643

    Long Live TRIUMPH!

I wore out my cassette copy of Just A Game in my teens. I think that, more than any other album/band, that tape broadened my musical taste horizons at an early age. Variations of Rock, Ballads, Blues and Jazz are all well represented there and yeah, Rik's voice is just amazing.

Not to lump him in with them in terms of quality, because he's probably the best of the 3 in terms of pure tone, but I always thought it'd be cool to see him, Geddy and Neil Young do a sort of 3 Canadian Rock Tenors tour. People tend to feel very strongly one way or another about their voices. Love 'em or hate 'em quite passionately.

The last CD I got was the Triptykon album. And a great buy it was!
The last DVD I bought was - and this is a fact not opinion - the best live gig on DVD ever, Primordial's All Empires Fall.

Speaking of Triumph, they're coming out with a new remastered greatest hits cd and dvd on May 14 including 11 promo videos and 3 unreleased videos, including "blinding light show". I will definitly be buying that one.

I too always dreamed of a Rik Emmett and Geddy Lee collaboration, ahhh, things that could have been. I am sure you know but Triumph played Swedish Roch Fest and Rocklahoma 2 years ago and talked about a tour in '09, never happened though. I guess they discovered that some things are better left for dead. My Brother lives in Blaine, WA and sees Rik solo with some regularity. He is wayyyyy mellowed these days, playing all his eclectic stuff that he loves, good for him!

    From another thread...

ShoreSlayer wrote:Never got to see a huge Triumph arena rock show as they didn't hit the west very often at all but got to see Rik Emmett on a solo tour in the winter of '08. Just him and a buddy with acoustic guitars in a small theatre with killer acoustics. Amazing playing and some interesting stories. There was some Q&A and he talked about a reunion possibility but it didn't seem very likely. Sure left there feeling like I'd missed out on something special by never seeing the actual band on tour.

Yeah, I was lucky enough to see Thunder Seven and Sport of Kings, just amazing shows. On Thunder Seven they had Molly Hatchet opening. I remember Molly had a huge white Grand Piano onstage and during Flirtin' With Disaster, all three guitars were standing on top jamming. Goooood memories there. Triumph FULLY embraced the Arena rock spectacle, no one could match their light show back in the day. Well, Dio's stage for Sacred Heart was pretty incredible too. I'd re-live those days in a heartbeat man!

Mutiny Within - right after seeing their stage show.
It was a fabulous stage show and it's a good album, but somehow they sounded very very different... couldn't exactly make the connection... hmmm... I guess I gotta see them live once more now that I listened the album several times...

    Madder Mortem - Mercury
    Opeth - Orchid
    Katatonia - Brave Murder Day
    Katatonia - Tonight's Decision

I paid postage to mail it to Australia, so I'll consider it a purchase

There will be no admission to listening to In Flames in this thread. Yiddish Metal - YES, In Flames I won't sit still for

I didn't even have one back in the early 90's when 7"'s were all the rage. I could only play them at the college radio station where I did my show at.

Easily their strongest album, good choice. :beerwink:

It is excellent! Can't believe I didn't own it/hear the whole thing until about a month ago. I've only really known of Tyr for about a year and a half now - had seen the name mentioned here and there and saw them for the first time in March 2009 with Alestorm and Suidakra. I bought Land and Ragnarok around that time...then By the Light of the Northern Star when it was released last year. I saw Tyr again in January with Korpiklaani and then a few weeks ago. Just love this band and their music - so unique!!! I have not met many musicians, but I did meet Heri and Gunnar the bass player after the last gig - they were so nice and down to earth! I'm looking forward to seeing them again at Wacken this summer and they get my vote for joining the Metal Cruise shindig.

    Hmmm...more recent purchases...
Dark Tranquility: We are the Void
    Heidevolk: Walhalla Wacht
    Heidevolk: Uit Oude Grond

i just found out about Heidevolk recently and have quickly become a new favorite. :viking:
