    Re-reading the Silmarillion.

But reading it in English for the first time. Feels weird. :ugeek:

Finished A Song of Fire and Ice for the second time a wile ago. The ending of A Dance With Dragons blows even harder the second time.
I found two funny references to Monty Python, "...the kind that don't break and run when you fart in their general direction." (p. 378 in my edition), and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, "...and I never did learn the knack of flying." (p. 538), in A Dance With Dragons. There might be more that I missed.

I'm not sure. I read it in Spanish when I was like 12 and have re-read it many times now. But I've only just started it in English. I'll tell you once I get to the chapter about the kingdoms of Beleriand...

It's just weird to read differently something that you already know. I keep remembering some sentences in Spanish. Unlike The Lord of the Rings, names here remain the same, since they are in Quenya or Sindarin.

Can't remember if I ever mentioned The Hunger Games here (think I might have mentioned the first movie and that I was going to read the first book)....but I am *finally* reading the first book after repeated requests from our 14 year old daughter. :P She read the books for the first time at around age 12 (and absolutely loved them to death, no pun intended ;) ) and around that time she said there was not one kid in her age group who was not reading them...same with our older girl who is a year and a half older.

The Hunger Games phenomenon (books and movies) has me quite fascinated on many levels, as the Twilight series did, but for different reasons. Re HG, the premise from the get go...the playing out of a fight to the death between a group of 18 and younger kids....with a lone survivor as the winner (all for the entertainment of the "rich")....in other words, the outright savagery of it all strikes me peculiar in many ways...primarily because it is so popular with such young kids (our younger girl has told me in some detail why she loves them so much). I'm not sure what to make of it all.

I'll buy you a beer or two for your troubles if that is the case!

Rothfuss knows how to write a good sentence. The strength in those books comes from his ability to make the mundane seem enthralling. The scope is not huge, but keep in mind the perspective of the main character as he tells his story; he's got a huge choice-supportive and confirmation bias towards himself that makes him sound like a 'mary-sue' character.

Otherwise... WORK TO STRENGTHEN YOUR ALAR. The Sympathy and sygaldry will flow from thy fingertips like starlight reflected from the frets of your lute's supple neck. Or something.

In other news, I am really really digging the Erikson series. Holy shit, it's massive and ridiculous.

Been reading lots of Star Wars books for the last 5 months off and on. Been alternating between those and Conan novels. Finished a good run of Star Wars, and when I fly out tomorrow I will once again read through L. Sprague DeCamp's "Conan: The Buccaneer." Good stuff. :beerhorns:

I just powered through the first Divergent book. Pretty cool. It's just like The Hunger Games (YA book about a young girl who has to save the world, set in a dystopian, post-apocalyptic future with a weird society), but the protagonist is WAY more badass than Katniss (which is saying a lot, I guess). Worth a read, and you can be done with the book within a week.

GRRM books are getting boring to read because too many people die and those you hate or act stupid all the time well survive...

So I finish Dee Snider biography, it is an interesting read but far to be a must read. After that I read book #17 of the Aubrey-Maturin series from Patrick O'Brian. Only have 3 books to go and be done with a series I started reading years ago but it is so good that I am afraid to read them all and be done with this awesome series

Now I am reading The Hobbit

I've been knee deep trying to make sense of my Kawi's service manual. But, I've finally made myself read for pleasure, so, I'm re-reading The Sea Wolf by Jack London. Get it. Read it. Read it again.

Finished another three or four Conan novels written by several authors Robert E. Howard among them. Yesterday, I just opened up the last Wheel of Time epic. It's been two years since I read the previous one, so I'm a bit lost at the moment but the story is kind of starting to flesh itself out. So far it's action packed.

I am reading Wheel of Time - I am on book 6 right now.

Definitely the best series I've read so far!

That's high on my "get to it" list. If you are enjoying WOT, make DAMN sure you read the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss (2 books of the trilogy out so far).

    http://www.amazon.com/Patrick-Rothfuss/e/B001DAHXZQ/ref=sr_tc_2_0?qid=1394998894&sr=1-2-ent

Currently I am reading Sex and Violence in Zero-G by Allen Steele. A collection of entertaining shorts from Steele, a "somewhat" light - fun read.

So I finished teh Divergent series. Pretty good, and the ending is just beautiful.

I also read a novel called Red Rising, by a new author called Pierce Brown. It's been a long time since I got that excited while reading a sci-fi book.

Right now, I'm reading about military history and strategy... I don't know why, really. :P

Planning on re-reading the Hyperion Cantos in the next few weeks. :ugeek: :ugeek:

    70K 2014 SURVIVOR (Cabin 2565)

Jeez that took me a while. Just finished it and now moving on to:

Also as far as people saying that that book was boring compared to the previous ones; it was.
