Hockeyagi!! - 2011/2066 race for the cup!!

    by ShoreSlayer » Tue Apr 27, 2010 9:10 pm

Seems a few people here are into the NHL so here's a thread for related discussions.

I'm looking forward to finding out who Boston's opponent is going to be as a good buddy of mine is a diehard Boston fan who would be in major mental conflict if there were ever a Vancouver / Boston final. Apparently Savard is due back from concussion so playing Pittsburgh would have cool ramifications.

Then, of course, there's the Vancouver / Chicago series which will have me in fits for a week or two. More on that later. For now I just can't wait for this work week to be over

I root for anything vs a Boston team. Blame that on the Red Sox.

Since my team is out anyway, I can just lean back and enjoy watching the rest slaughter each other... :death:

But in good memories of the '93/'94 final and since I have friends in Vancouver, let the Canucks have a shoot at it!

Wow! WTG Habs! Huge comeback and just an amazing performance by Halak. Shame many will see it tainted by that stupid no goal call. They should have allowed it but that's the way these things go sometimes.

My dream for this season is for Boston to knock of the Habs in the east final and for us (Vanc) to knock off Detroit in the west and then, of course, the parade can just go right by my front door tyvm!!

Being from Pittsburgh, I wouldn't mind seeing the Pens repeat. Really, though, I think the West is more interesting because we never see any of those teams. I'd like to see a Sharks/Canucks conference final.

Ideally, the winner would face the Pens, of course. :trashdrink:

    Okay, here I go.....

    Um Fuck the NHL.

Tickets in my town are SUPER expensive, there are too many teams, there are too many games, the schedule is too hard to follow , we don't get to see certain teams and the season drags on into spring and SUMMER (note- I will not be inside watching hockey on a nice day). Can't we at least do with best of 5? Wouldn't that be easier?

Explain to me what the fuck Florida is doing with an hockey team.

Would someone please get Winnipeg a team? Even Saskatoon could support one, look what Saskatchewan is able to do with the CFL in Taylor Field OUTSIDE.

After the strike hockey fell off the USA radar.

I fully support junior hockey and the WHL, I coached intra-mural hockey at UBC but again, the NHL is fucked. Do not support the rich NHL, they are not advancing the sport.

Okay, back to more metal. Thanks for listening.

    Re: Fucking the league

I agree with many of your points but definitely not all. I could watch it all year round, I couldn't care less if there's too many teams or if they went best of 21 x 8 rounds. The schedule is hard to follow? I don't want my team to have to travel to the furthest reaches too many times per year anyways.

I'm sorry your Jets ended up in Phoenix. That blows.

I'd hate to lose the Canucks.

I'll continue to watch but fully support you boycotting and sticking with metal or whatever you enjoy more these days. We can hang out on the same page in December when the World Jr.s fire up once more

I'm a huge hockey fan, love my Leafs (nothing you can say would upset me as much as missing the playoffs 5 years in a row!) & really enjoy junior hockey. I'm within a half hour drive of Oshawa Generals & Mississauga St. Michael's Majors. I had tickets to the World Cup of Hockey (2004), 2009 World Junior Hockey Championships in Ottawa & already have my tickets & hotel booked for Buffalo 2011 Junior tournament.

I've adopted the Chicago Blackhawks for these playoffs.

Wow, from the Laffs to this year's Hawks... You are certainly a glutton for pain aren't ya? Well, best of luck...

I guess you can just consider this my sincerest condolence message to you and the rest of Hawk nation. I'll offer it up a little early so you all can stretch the grieving process out over time. Did you see game 1? Do you think tonight will be much different?

Tell ya what... Chicago knocks of the 'Nucks and you and Strangeways' first drinks on the cruise are on me.

    Vancouver in 5 :P

Chicago AND Toronto.... you poor, poor thing you.

Nice push back tonight I must say. Not impressed with our lack of finish and special teams... Yikes!!

If my team doesn't respond to tonight's effort with a major shift, I may be on the hook for those drinks after all :D

It's only two games, lots of hockey to be played for sure!

Like I said, I can take the ribbing about the Leafs. 5 years without playoffs is enough to endure though & the future looks a little better than the (recent) past at the moment.

Yeah... Buffy was HUGE last night. I'm very impressed with the Hawks and surprised at many of Vancouver's failures in both these games. Bieksa's long been the whipping boy of local fans but he's been so awful these past few games... Many are calling for his head lol. For sure the 'Nucks won't win another game unless they really get their shit together or make some major adjustments. Right now, Chicago deserves to move on and Buffy deserves a huge new contract (not sure of his status).

Good luck and good times Friday guys.

Prior to the Vancouver series they were talking about how the Blackhawks haven't been playing with the nastiness they played with in last years playoff run. It seems the Canucks have brought it out of them. Should be a good game on Friday night!

Sadly no, it was the worst I've seen in a long time. Not so much the result. I can handle losing. But Canucks had no heart and Hawks just dominated them big time.

This city's hockey club DOES have a great history of coming back from weak starts and being down 3-1 but yeah, it will take some very special performances to come back from this one. Tonight was a good start. Left lots of blood on the ice and poor Sami even sacrificed a real life testicle. If that don't inspire your team mates, nothing will.

Well Lui seems to be back after last nights game!

Habs will hopefully push the Pens to a game 7. I hate Montreal & Pittsburgh but the play of PK Subban has made me start rooting for the Canadiens. Plus when PK told Sid to stop crying to the refs & start acting like a captain it scored points with me big time :D

That is if I book for the cruise, my kids are still iffy on it but it is promissing. They're looking to see what other bands are going to be announced, but are pretty interested in an all metal cruise.

Quite an interesting East final for sure. 2 historic, major record setting type underdogs heading for battle. Still not sure who the hell to pick in my pool. Round 3 is final pick so I need to take players I suspect will make it to the final. My predictions have been horrible thus far though so I'm not expecting much different. I think I'll go Philly Chicago though. Both finals looks to go 7 in my opinion. Enjoy!

Hockeyagi!! - 2010/2011 race for the cup!!

    by ShoreSlayer » Mon Feb 28, 2011 1:40 am

Since Mooyagi's Bruins came to town the other night and dominated my Canucks and burnt through Alberta as well this past week, I guess it's time for a Stanley Cup thread.

Flames are making a desperate push.

Bruins need to just avoid Philly and they're a shoe-in for the final.

Canucks need to avoid any more injuries and get Edler and Bieksa back to make a serious run. Hawks suck this year so that's a bit of a reprieve for us too.

Crosby looks doubtful to return and Ovechkin's having the worst season of his career so looks as though the Penguins and Caps will be non-factors this year.

And, of course, Kevin doesn't give a shit about ANY of it

To all who do care, good luck to your teams! Gonna be some great battles this year for sure as many of the games I've seen lately are already near playoff intensity. Good times!

I won a dollar off the Boston/Vancouver game. I found it funny how people had left Calgary for dead even after they had started their comeback from being 14 points out of 8th and had the best record in the league for the last 10 games (I think that was around when we left for the cruise). We have lost 3 games in the last 24 in regulation. I'm really hoping for a Vancouver/Calgary series because that would be beyond intense. As for the east Boston and Philly are definitely the best picks but I wouldn't leave Pittsburg out of it yet, at least one of their top 2 guys will be back and they are playing well regardless. Montreal is looking really good this year too. Oh and Pheonix, who saw that coming? Its going to be a fun playoff season indeed.

Oilers and Leafs still suck though. :viking:

Can't wait to see what happens for trades today, haven't been able to check while I'm at work. I think there's only like 20 minutes until the deadline is up anyways though.

COME ON FLAMES!! I would like to get to a HELL of a lot more Playoff games this year god damn it!

Surprised to see the Oil give up Dustin Penner. L.A. could be a dark horse in the post-season.

Flames acquire Frederick Modin. I think his best years were back with Tampa but he could bring something to the Flames. I agree Joey, a Flames / Canucks round 1 would be fun for sure. Great history (no, not like Boston / Mtl but ya gotta start somewhere)

Canucks grabbed a few plugs but no one of any real note. Higgins numbers don't impress nor do Lapierre's or this other farm team guy but I have faith in Gillis. He's done a great job since taking over.

Surprised to see the Blues unload Brad Boyes to Buffalo for so cheap. What the hell?

Capitals picked up Arnott from the Devils pretty cheap. Their top line gets going again and that could be a great add for secondary scoring.
So far at least, 2011, 2012 & 2015 were enough for me
    :shred:Book 'em ANDO!! :headbanger:

Pretty quiet trade day. Flames picked up Modin, forward and Carson, defence. I don't think much tampering was needed. I don't think Flames/Canucks would happen round 1, Flames are gonna finish higher than 8th. Round 2 or 3 hopefully (if it does happen).
