    random rejoicing thread

    by last_candle » Mon Nov 08, 2010 1:06 pm

once all the steam is let off in the "random bitching thread" - we can focus on the bright side of life

fist things first: life is good

...and on a less important note: they added some interesting channels to my tv bundle: fox, tnt, syfy a.s.o. - they are new to switzerland and even in HD

    I'm in.

The weather here in Florida has been awesome the last few days. Nice and cool autumn weather. Just nice days to relax outside. And I just ordered a fire pit online so in a few days I am going to be burning all sorts of stuff like a pyro! Fire!!!

More channels are always good. Syfy is fun.. Maybe you will be lucky enough to catch Sharktopus someday!
Have a good time...all the time.

Saturday was Carl Sagan day. I'm lucky enough to live near the site of the official events. Saw some superb lectures, met some great people, and topped it off with a late evening of drinks with science nerds like myself. My kinda day!

umm Jaimie I think you should change your signature from "iceberg watch" to something more geographically appropriate like,

I am rejoicing in the fact that even though I got some crappy news on Thursday, I had an amazing weekend with my friends. KICK ASS weekend to be exact. I feel that life is extremely good, and feel incredibly positive right now.

now I am no self described sci-nerd, and wiki is often inaccurate but:

"Sagan stated that he never actually used the phrase in the Cosmos series.[26] The closest that he ever came was in the book Cosmos, where he talked of "billions upon billions":[27]"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Sagan ... d_billions

I always thought the misquote was "and" instead of "upon"

    but I could be wrong...

No no sir, you have a valid point. The popularized quote is Billions and Billions. What he actually WROTE, but never actually said, was Billions upon Billions. Either way, it's funny that his most famous quote is one he never used.

I am so stoked that I broke up with my ex boyfriend almost two years ago! That guy has turned into a miserable old drunk!
I feel sorry for the chicks that live in Ohio, though.
Although...he did tell me to 'go die.' That wasn't cool. :?

    He's handling it better than I would've.

After realizing they'd completely blown their one shot at a hot blond librarian with an ass crafted by Gods, most guys would reach for the nearest gun and shoot themselves in the face
So far at least, 2011, 2012 & 2015 were enough for me

He's reaching for a 12 pack a night and telling me to go die instead.

Seriously. I mean, it's not much of an insult, is it?

    I would have gone with:
I hope your mother dies a painful syphilis related death, and when you have the wake, her corpse reawakens, and she bites your father, turning him into a zombie. Your parental zombies would then begin to consume the brains of everybody you know and love at the wake. You have to smash open a nearby fire emergency panel, which inexplicably has an axe in it, and hack the heads off of your undead folks.
Only decapitation isn't as easy as you thought. It takes you 6 cleaves to sever your mother's spinal column, and you hear the scrape of metal on bone each time you bring down the axe.

Your mother dispatched, you fix your sights on your approaching father. You're tired. Every strike with the axe is an almost insurmountable burden, sending the painful shock of lactic acid shooting through your overworked arms. As you bring down the now dulled blade laterally into the top of your dad's skull, you're reminded of the first baseball game he brought you to. You remember it well. Oh, how simple life was back then. You begin to sob uncontrollably as you attempt to pull the weapon from your now doubly deceased father, the fractured remains of his cranium crunching sickeningly with the exertion. It's no use.

Your parents' badly brutalized remains lie mangled, dormant. The empty, accusing stare in their eye calls out to you.
"You did this to us" they seem to say.
You collapse on the ground, shaking, sobbing, terrified. What did you do to deserve this?
The remaining undead close in around you, the stench of putrified flesh burning your nostrils. You want to run. You won't die here.
As you attempt to rise to your feet, what was once your uncle grabs at your hair. You pull away, feeling the searing pain of your scalp being peeled from your skull. Your eyes burn from crying. You couldn't have seen the funeral director approach from the side. He sinks his teeth into the back of your neck. It feels at first like a great weight pushing down on you, but you soon feel the damage. Warm blood flows down your back, the wound pulsating and gurgling in synchronization with your heartbeat.

You feel light headed. Everything appears to be blanketed in a gray haze; You feel as if you are looking through the eyes of someone else. A stranger in a morbid practical joke, maybe. You feel the distant sensation of hands touching you. The warm embrace of loved ones who have passed?
This must be it!, you think to yourself. All of our hopes and dreams confirmed, an eternity of exuberance of and peace!
The benevolent hands tighten their grip.
You feel more teeth penetrating your skin.
    Blinding pain.
    No more thoughts.
    Darkness.

It was indeed a great read. Zombies are always a good time.

For those who haven't heard, watch The Walking Dead on AMC Sunday nights at 10 pm. Great show. 2 episodes down, 4 more to go, but they just got approved for another season.
Have a good time...all the time.

My favorite line was "doubly deceased Father" Although "doubly deceased Dad" Although doubly deceased Dad would have made the alliterative hat trick :heavydrink:

I agree, cg is quite the young wordsmith, although he gets -10 for gifting me an image of him "gaying it up with Devin"

We got an offer on the Fiancee's house last night!
Once that thing is sold (it's been on the market for 8 months), we'll no longer be pissing away $1,000+ for something we don't use.
That means I can get a new truck! :viking:

Or you can spend $1,000+ more on alcohol and merch on the cruise!

Congrats on selling the house though! I doubt I will ever be able to sell my house for what I paid for it (not that I want to right now, but it would be nice to know I am not so upside down on it). Damn housing bubble!
