However, Grant said that they're still open to doing the cruise. 4 months is not an unheard of time to take your first vacation away from your child especially with nearby family.
I won't hold it against them if they say no. But the band is currently saying they aren't ruled out right now.

I wonder if they're setting up a session drummer for upcoming tours? I'd imagine having both parents gone for weeks at a time would be difficult for kids at any age.

Last I chatted with folks more in the know. They're planning on nothing too long of a time commitment so that both members (the only two founding members left) are still at every show. But kids are unpredictable bastards so who knows what's going to happen

If Nightwish can do a date in Japan on 28th January and still be confirmed for boat, then Battlebeast having a gig in Finland on 28th January should be okay too.

Yeah its a huge risk. My very brief research tells me that if they leave Tokyo the following day (Jan 29th), their quickest option would be leaving at 11am, flying 16 hours with a flight change in Dallas, getting into Miami around 1pm on the 29th (due to international datelines etc).

That leaves basically 24 hours of padding to allow for flight issues. And of course getting all their gear there!!

If they can pull it off great but geez I'm not gonna be surprised if there is trouble.....

This cruise is proving already that we kind of need an intermediate level between "all clear" and "ruled out"
Insomnium and Nightwish were in the middle ground with show dates for the entire band for NW and an individual member Insom. And I wouldn't be surprised if a few more that we had said "won't play" find work arounds for their conflicts too.

So I've gone back over the list, and have a "DEFINITELY RULED OUT" list (tour dates elsewhere during the cruise, death of a core member like Steve from Grim reaper or Ted from Tourniquet) and a "PROBABLY RULED OUT" (member/s touring with other bands, dates CLOSE to 70k, doing a competing cruise, etc)

I think First Fragment can be removed all together from the list. The only band member shared between them and UtA is Nick the bass player. Since it was Brittney and Scott who had a kid, he would be free to do whatever with his other band.

Yeah it's possible. I remember some European bands arriving one day before the cruise for some previous 70 000 tons. FInnair doesn't have direct flights on Sundays from Helsinki to Miami, but flying via any major European hub like Frankfurt, Munich, London, Paris or Amsterdam is very much possible. Early morning departure and depending on the schedule, arrival to Miami sometime in the afternoon on Sunday. Of course there's always the risk of flight cancellations or delayed luggage aka instruments.

Most cruises that have exclusionary clauses typically do so based on the size of the cruise. So, if it's a much smaller cruise, it might not be an issue. That being said, we mostly assume the big cruises have them, but I'm not sure any of us KNOW they have them (like most land-based festivals definitely do).

I asked that on Facebook in the comments for the Feuerschwanz announcement and the 70000 tons page replied to me that "don't worry, there will be a payment plan available". So I guess there will be one, but maybe it's two or three installments then instead of four?

Dimmu Borgir is ruled out. Their only show next year is at the Beyond The Gates festival in Norway.

Have they ever even done a cruise? I know Portnoy and a couple of his bands have done several, but don't recall DT doing one. That being said, getting Winery Dogs or Sons of Apollo on 70K would be great, IMO. But I don't think either of those are active right now.
